If anyone has any suggestions for around £100 please let me know !

You aren't allowed to trade or ask for sales outside of Members Market

Currently running :

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz
Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 430
Gaming graphics 2815 MB Total available graphics memory
Primary hard disk 235GB Free (687GB Total)

and recently I've bought an SSD to add to that .

Not too much available for £100, if you want decent gaming performance. £150 will net you a 2Gb 7850 though, which should be a decent compliment to your system.

Maybe you can find one of these second-hand at closer to £100?

Ok well here's the story behing the question . I'm going to be building a slightly better rig then what I have now . My birthday is around the corner and she's said she'll buy me something to go towards it (as long as I choose it) .

SO !

Where should I start ? I wanna use as much as I can from my old CPU so I atleast have a running rig I can use while I upgrade it .
I was thinking starting with a new case or motherboard ?

She's offered to foot in a hundred quid give or take ! :)

Suggestions PLEASE !

Hmm... What's the timeframe for you building the rest of it?

I ask because the CPU market is relatively flat... If you wait 6 or 12 months then yes, you would see a slight boost in performance for your money, but nothing significant. Whereas the GPU market is still growing rapidly.

If you're going to be upgrading the rest of it relatively soon (say a couple of months), then I would go for a new GPU now (which will give you the biggest relative boost in gaming performance), and then upgrade the CPU/motherboard/RAM later to unlock the full potential of the rig. On the other hand, if it's going to be 6 or 9 months or longer before you upgrade, then I would go for a new CPU / motherboard now and look at the GPU market again later. In 6 or 9 months you will get significantly more "bang" for your money in the GPU market, whereas the CPU market will still be fairly similar to how it is today.

... of course the difficulty with going the CPU route is finding a new CPU / motherboard / RAM for ~£100. If you choose to go this route I would look at a second hand Sandy Bridge processor (2500k maybe) with 8Gb RAM. Will come to more than £100, but will give you the best "bang for buck".

What resolution do you game at?

To be honest that CPU will bottleneck a lot of current GPUs. For your £100 you could get a decent second hand GPU off ebay or a semi decent last gen one brand new.

Overclock your CPU to help reduce the bottleneck and get the best GPU you can afford second hand. Whatever you get brand new will be severely outdated in a year. If you do go second hand stick with the following brands as they have warranties tied to the GPU and not the original purchaser.

MSI (AMD and Nvidia)
EVGA (Nvidia only)
Gigabyte (AMD and Nvidia)

My birthday is on the 24th of Ausgust so I need something ordered before then . Atleast the first piece to the build ! I'm looking at motherboards now , the heats on and my girlfriend has given me full reign about what present I get lol ! So I can chip in a few extra quid and get something decent .

So confused . Where do you start with a new build ? It seems like i'm not really going to be able to salvage anything from my current build and use it as its either outdated or incompatible !

What would your budget be for say the CPU/mobo/ram/graphics card overall?

What is your current PSU? I'm assuming you wont need an OS, DVD, HDD, Case?
