Hey there, due for a new build from what i have currently:
p4 3ghz
1gb ram
Geforce FX5500 (The radeon 9800pro died)
120gb HDD

Got round about £850 to spend ex VAT+ and it will be used a lot for gaming.
The Conroe E6600 and 2gb of RAM are pretty much definites yea and I am not looking to overclock.

With graphics cards, well... an 8800gts looks quite good or is there better bang for my buck? Currently game at 1280x1024 on a 17" TFT but id rather get a gts and use a bit of overkill than get a lower card which only just achieves maximum performance because im considering getting a 19" monitor aswell.

Cheapest case is fine to save money i am not bothered about things like that, also cooling - i don't mind it noisy to save money either to spend on the more important things (for me at least).

Thanks guys

ello,

I would suggest the following:

Asus TA-212 Series Midi Tower (Silver) - No PSU £21.99
(£25.84) £21.99
(£25.84)
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £182.99
(£215.01) £182.99
(£215.01)
OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit £124.99
(£146.86) £124.99
(£146.86)
Abit AB9 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £79.99
(£93.99) £79.99
(£93.99)
Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU £74.99
(£88.11) £74.99
(£88.11)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB ST380811AS SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM £27.99
(£32.89) £27.99
(£32.89)
Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £244.99
(£287.86) £244.99
(£287.86)

Sub Total : £757.93 (EX VAT)

Areas you could spend more in are memory, and I also allowed for other items - not sure if you need optical drives etc!

It's easier for you to give us a spec that you think then we can suggest minor modifications, rather than a few of us giving you completely different systems :) It will be your computer after all :p

Sounds like a good spec, I'd be tempted to go for a Gigabyte motherboard rather than the Abit. OP, what don't you need to buy?

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
- BFG 8800GTS
- GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4
- Gigabyte GA_945PL_S3
- Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS
- Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB

Total = £808.93 - WITHOUT VAT
£950.49 - WITH VAT

:p With advice from some on ere I moved from Abit (who I usually invest in for motherboards) to GByte and had to RMA cause of it being faulty so now I've been put off them!! lol.

Exactly what I'd written down! Except went for a smaller HD to save a bit of the money. Struggling to get under £800 without a significant alteration such as the CPU...

Great mind thinks alike.

I pretty much need to buy everything such as CDRW/DVD drive, not a mouse and keyboard though, no software.- i would have suggested a spec of my own but i am not exactly very knowledgeable with computers

... for example does it come bundled with fans etc so i won't need to buy additional ones?

I can spend up to about 850 ex vat not 800 but id need a bigger HDD than 80gb i reckon.
Thanks guys for your suggestions, Lolcb's suggestion looks pretty bang on!

In which case you'll probably struggle to get under £850 :( Can the graphics/CPU be put down slightly? Big savings potential

Or use mishima's spec as the basis?

Just add this into the list

- NEC ND7173 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer LabelFlash ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Thats like £20. Still under 850.

I hope the 850 doesn't have to include the monitor. If not then you're pretty much screwed lol.
