it isnt amazingly bad, but when you are used to playing on games such as fear, bf2 and cs:s you do see a vast difference, but you are right its free as is americas army, imo better gfx than et!!!

You forget that ET really raised the bar as far as objective based team multiplayer games went. While it looks pap now, when it was in it's prime you really couldn't fault it. You can't compare this game to it's modern day equivalents.

and played like a bag of .....

not worth dl if you ask me.visuals are right up there with the atari 2600

The word DUH comes to mind, it's a very old game based on even an older engine. But it has nothing to do with the point that it was/is a great game.
Updating it to modern day GFX and gameplay, is what the sequel is all about (due soon)

I still play TFC, and it's hardly up there in the lookers department. If developers would start to concentrate on the core aspect of FPS games - Gameplay, then maybe we'd find the PC games market back on top again.

thing is i dont see the point in dl it even if it is free cause for a couple of quid you could get cod1 or mh which isnt much is it and are very good games.

Try Call of Juarez. I just completed it yesterday and it really was excellent. Was quite a different and refreshing FPS. Shame no one bought it really

why on earth has no one mentioned Call of duty + united offensive and better yet CoD2??

as far as shooters go they're amongst the best for sp intensity and aggression.

....... ah just noted the bit about counter terrost'ish requirements.

I new to FPS... well a year or so !

In order of the most fun to play ...

1. Battlefield 2 MP
2. Call of Duty 2 and 3 (2 slightly better imo)
3. Farcry
4. Rainbow 6 Vegas

I dread to think how many hours I spent on those games worth every penny

That's a tall order, Deus Ex was really one of a kind... The closest I've played recently that approaches it in gameplay style is Thief 3 but that's not really a "shooter" since the emphasis is on stealth. But it shares the more open-ended approach to level design and the emergent gameplay of Deus Ex.
What you really want is to hold out till Bioshock comes out.
