Suggest me a HSF

Hi,

I've been looking at the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and read some reviews.

One of the reviews I read included a audio file of how noisy it was at full speed - it was pretty loud & as they said in the review I also noticed it going slightly up and down sometimes which would really be annoying.

Can anyone suggest me a nice HSF please?

Socket 775 & I'm planning to eventually stick a 3.6GHZ+ Dual core (hopefully the extreme edition - the one with 1066 FSB etc.) under it so it'll need to be able to cool that well as well.

Thanks
- Craig.

You mean the:
Scythe Ninja Plus Fanless HeatPipe Cooler?

Can't find a nexus fan anywhere on OcUK, do they stock them on there?

--Edit--
Just found the Nexus on a competitor and compared it to the top one here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Akasa_Fans.html - that one has more CFM and is only 18db rather than 22.8db? Surely it's a better fan then the nexus - moves more air and is quieter?

Thanks,
- Craig.

yep it'll fit any 775 board to the best of my knowledge

Yeah, I read a semi-review on it and it says it just won't fit the boards with RAM close to the CPU... won't be a problem for me then :)

--Edit--
Just compared my current stock cooler to the Ninja cooler (11cm length, as in across the top) and it's only slightly longer. Might have to move the ram one slot across which won't be a problem, but I doubt i'll have to.

Think I'm gonna go for this HSF then :)

One last question:

When I get it should I face it towards the back orange exhaust fans?

The fans are on, its weird... the camera caught them like that :p

--Edit--

Question for James - will any of the little battery thingys on the board get in the way? Or will the RAM get in the way?

Thanks,
Craig.

yes most definately. also the fan should sit on top of your ram without causing any problems, assuming your ram isnt taller than the usual stuff it does with my s939 board:)

I have the Corsair XMS3200 Pro DDR which is chunkier than usual, any ideas if it's taller?

(camera's do that, my fans are on there too lol)

:p

Oh, also, did ya see my edit on my last reply?>

oooh. it is taller that ram, yes. You'll almost defiantly have to move the ram if the fan sits oover the ram slots. shouldnt cause you any problems though:)

edit: no, the capacitors shouldnt obstruct the heatsink at all:) the base of ther heatsink is quite narrow, and there is a large clearance for the large part of the 'sink:)

Not a problem if I have to move them one slot along :)

Also, would I put the fan right next to my 2 exhuasts (going to be getting a wavemaster which will still have the 2 exhausts I have now) or would I put it on the other side like you have? I'm guessing it's an intake fan on the ninja judging on your placement.

otherside like mine:) have it blowing air thru the heatsink then extracted by the case fans:)

Okay, cool.

Just out of interest, what's your CPU and what temps you get?

I read a review and the FX-57 got 54 load and 37 idle which I think is excellent for such a powerful processor (does the FX-57 produce more heat then an Intel 530 3.0GHZ Sckt 775?)

--Edit--
Was just thinking, it's gonna be cooled very well when I get a wavemaster - intake from front --> through cpu --> out the back :)
--/Edit--

--Edit 2--
Yeah the coolermaster does only have one back fan :(
2 intakes though
I might get the PC-7, but I've been wanting the coolermaster wavemaster for quite a long time now
--/Edit 2--

Thx

ive got an opteron 148 running 200mhz faster than an fx-57 (that's 3 ghz lol) and i was loading at 53 earlier today in this heat. in the cooler months it was around 47-48c :)

edit: i thought the wavemasters have one 80mm exhaust? if you havent got it already, id seriously concider something with 120mm case fans like a pc7+ or a thermaltake sunami:)

Answered your edit in my last reply :)
Nice heats with that processor - I'm guessing that CPU will produce more heat than my Intel 530 3.0GHZ?

Well, a friend of mine is running 2x 6800GT SLI, 1GB XMS3200 Pro DDR, FX-55 w/ stock HSF fine in that case, so I'm pretty sure it'll handle my spec:

3GHZ 530 1MB L2
200GB SATA
6800GT - probably be a 6800GS soon as the GT is slightly faulty
1GB Corsair XMS3200 Pro DDR.

If I do majorly upgrade and have heat problems with the upgrade I can always get a PC-7 for it, they're only about £60.

That's just for cooling though, I really like the PC-7 Lian-Li but I've been looking at the Wavemaster for a lot longer than the PC-7.

As I said I can always get a PC-7 if a future upgrade makes everything too hot - they're only £60 and I'll be getting £30 a week next year (not going to get any major upgrades before then) so that won't be a problem getting one if I have to.

The wavemaster is a great looking case but its a pig to cool.

It'll do a better job than this won't it?:

Currently I'm using the fan that came on the side to cool the hard drive, it's doing a good job on that but not really spreading the air anywhere else as the intake holes on the front are extremely small. I also have 2 akasa fans on the back that don't move very much as they're practically silent. So basically the air flow isn't too good at the moment, so won't the wavemaster cool better than my current?

Oh, also the wavemaster comes with a kit to convert the top plugs into an intake fan which will probably help a lot.
