I want to install Linux on my old PC, specifically to provide an off-line version of a website.

My Internet connection is slow, so something that's light on the download please.

Beyond I'll be using it to run Lamp and Wordpress and that's it.

Also, the disk I'll be using was the system disk in my windows PC so it has an EFI partition (it had W7 loaded). Should I wipe that before taking it out of the Windows PC - it's in as a spare at present.

So a very light distro.
Personally I would go with Backbox4, very lightweight, fast and download is smaller than a CD.
As for the partition, Linux will give you the option to remove that during install, it's very straight forward.

If all you want is an internal lamp server then you can't get much lighter than Debian netinstall if you aren't afraid of a little command line work to get things running.

The install disk is ~350mb

I am afraid of a little command line work! But I'll look at the two distributions suggested. I've used a form of Debian on my RPi, I've not heard of Backbox4.

Thanks for reassuring me about the partition.

It's happily installing, and I've impressed that before it's finished it's located and enabled the dongle for the wireless keyboard. Suspect it will keep downloading more software for a while though.
