Ok...it's been years since I last played any games - certainly not later than 1999/2000 and they were mostly from 1996/7 ( F16, Colin McCrae, Quake etc). I've been too busy since then and just not had the time or machine, but now I'd like to get back into a bit of gaming.

I'll be adding either a 5850 or 5870 gfx card to this system that I've just recently built but, will also be building my main computer based on a SandyBridge system, in a month or two's time.

I know games and equipment have moved on, so can you guys suggest a few games that aren't too taxing for a codger like me or too time consuming as I really don't have time to play for more than an hour or two at a time and I don't want to get involved in online gaming.

I did try out demos of Medievil Total War and Tomb raider back in about 2002 and found that style of game very much to my liking - so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Shogun Total War 2 has just been released, there is a demo on Steam if you want to give it a try. It's actually one of the best in the series in my opinion, well worth a look.

Thanks Parky... I've just been on Stream and had a quick look and it sounds just the job!

Left 4 Dead campaigns usually last around an hour. if you want to play for an hour or 2 at a time, they might be ideal.

Otherwise, i would suggest maybe Company of Heroes, Bioshock, Crysis(test that new rig;))

Oh, and Portal of course

Since you played Tomb Raider you may want to try the latest one called Tomb Raider: Underworld also the Prince of Persia games are similar and just as good if not better.

Never mind testing the new rig Pighardia, they sound like they will test me more ;) - thanks for for suggestions...I'll look into them!

I guessing a 5850 with this rig would handle them?

Prince of Persia...wooo I remember the very first edition! The graphics were about the same as in JAWS 3 LOL

Haha yeah but they made 3d versions and released five of them if i remember with Forgotten Sands being the latest which looks amazing.

i've got a 5850, and at 1080, it has maxed everything so far. Crysis- everything except anti-aliasing. i also had it clocked to 5870 speeds once, not now though.

5850 will handle all of the games you are considering with ease.:)

Well this one was my first ever new build and is only intended as my PhotoShop/general purpose machine.
I am soon going to build an SB ( 2500k) system for the same uses as the above as well as some gaming. I'll drop the card in this one until I get the new rig built.

There's quite a good offer on both the 5850 and the 5870 at the moment - I guess either one will suffice!

yes, i'm definitely going to pick up another 5850 for crossfire.
At £107, they are an absolute bargain!!

Though £150 for a 5870 is also a good deal.

Yep...both are excellent value...the only problem is they are both pre-order! Never mind...I've waited all these years to get back into it, so a couple of more weeks ain't gonna hurt :D

Do you like rpg's (Huge story lines) if so try the witcher, if you dont try witcher and play it abit more. It is that good.
Its like reading a really good book, bare in mind there are a lot of swearies and abit of boobs, done in an adult way.
10/10

Edit
I would not recommend this game if you have eye problems, purely cause you have to use the mouse button at the right time in synch with the tiny mark on screen whilst fighting.

apart from that awesome :)

The combat is what i'm struggling with tbh, i find it a bit awkward. i'm in the process of gathering mods for it atm

yeah they did mess up abit on the combat side, play it on easy for the story tbh.
