Following the suggestions in the forum thread here, would you like to see the Apple forums split out thus:

1. Mobile devices (iPod, iPhone, iPad) and iOS
2. Desktops, Macbooks etc (iMac, Mac Pro, Macbooks, Mac Mini) and OS X
3. Other (Apple TV, Time Capsules, Airport etc)

Or left the same as it currently is?

It would also mean the end of the "***official***" threads as there would be no need to keep everything about one device in a single large and unwieldy thread.

Place your votes accordingly.

As before, I can't guarantee this will happen but I'd like to know what the members think.

I really don't think there are enough threads / activity in these two forums to justify a third forum.

As soon as you said the end of the "Official" threads - I clicked Yes.

I hate everything being in one thread - makes it difficult to reply to peoples questions and statements :p

Voted yes, but your suggested layout Feek is a little weird.

Apple Hardware
Apple Software
Apple Iphone/ipad (hard/software)

winzor

Agreed :)

I voted yes, but I hope ending the Official Threads doesn't mean everyone starts a new thread every time they want to ask a simple question.

Yeah need to stop with the mile long official threads for new and exciting things, some situations they work well (the F1 race ones for example and the galleries) but for the new iphone (best example) it became too unwieldy far far too quickly for it to be readable.

I also prefer Oxy's split as the iphone stuff does sort of get in the way (so to speak)

There does need to be a separate forum for iOS devices. Because of the popular appeal of the iPhone, it seems like there are lots of people who are interested in iPhones but not at all in Macs, and vice versa. It'd be good to keep the two apart.

I'm not sure about the 'other' forum, though. I don't think there'd be enough activity to justify it. It'd be a shame to start going down the AVForums route, where there are forums and sub-forums for absolutely everything and browsing the forums is infuriating.

I agree with Mattus. Now I think about it, its hard to see many people posting in "Other".

Apple Hardware
Apple Software
Apple Iphone/ipad (hard/software)

Is looking like the best alternative.

Think the question is should we spilt it up by device or by hardware/software as we have at the moment?

I honestly think that theres enough grey between hardware and software that we end up having overlapping topics and so something by OS platform (iOS vs OSX vs Other) is better defined and in reality iOS devices seem to be the most popular Apple devices where some iOS owners just arent interested in what other things Apple have to offer...

ps3ud0

Moving anything related to iPhone/iPad and iOS to their own subforum would greatly improve the current two Apple forums. They will probably see a little bit less activity, but it is infuriating to have to scroll past dozens of iPhone threads when I am browsing for OS X/MBP stuff.

I have to say, I'd prefer a dedicated section for the iPhone/iPad.

  1. Hardware
  2. Software
  3. Mobile (iPhone & iPad)

As mentioned above, it's a reason why I have stopped posting in here - too many iPhone threads.

I agree with the above, being new to macs and having just purchased a new mac mini and mac pro I found looking for info past the iphone/threads annoying, I am not saying the iphone isn't important mac hardware, i do have one. but its own forum would make it so much better for anyone looking into getting a mac or into OS X

Great idea in my view!

I don't see the need for a separate hardware and software forum. Hardly anyone posts in thee anyway.

I think it should just go:

iOS, iPhone, iPad, iPod
OSX, Desktops, Laptops and other.

I can't think of a better split than this. Apple make relatively few complex accessories and we correspondingly see relatively few threads about them. As these are almost all associated with their hardware - be it mobile or computer-based - they would happily sit in either of these two forums rather than needing their own.

I think this too, being relatively new to Iphone the hardware/software boundary doesn't work as your interested in everything to do with the product. Trawling through the official thread for the product is a major pain in the butt too.
Putting the items together that fall under itunes makes sense as well.
