Hi all, following my own successful build a few months back, my bro wants me to create a new system for him. He wants a fast machine, play games like Rome Total War with good graphics, and plays a lot of FM2012, so something that will play that fast would be nice! He has a dell 23" monitor/keyboard/mouse etc already so its just the base unit. Im also going to recycle the cd drive from his current DELL.

I'm thinking of the following
GPU £128
MSI ATI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone Power Edition 1024MB GDDR5 PCI
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-115-MS

CPU £174
Intel I5 2500k with Gelid Tranquillo Cooler

He wants an SSD boot drive so:
Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s £84
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-008-CR

Case £64
Cooler Master CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-212-CM

PSU £60
Antec High Current Gamer 520W
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-147-AN

Ram £44
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3

Im struggling with what mobo to for, I wanted a MSI Z68A-GD65, but they are out of stock, so is there something similar round £140-£150, and the extra hard drive, when I ordered my pc, I got the
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II for £45, and now there doesnt seem to be anything at that size for the same price.

Also will the 520W PSU be able to handle the gpu and everything else?
Any suggestions on the build, and what mobo and extra hard drive to go for would be much appreciated!

Thanks ;)

Yeah, HDDs are very expensive atm because of some floods. If you can wait, then do! Though it may be a while. Or see if you can get one second hand.

Otherwise it looks good. You don't need to spend that much on a motherboard though, this one is very good:

Maybe this PSU as it should allow you £20 off with this deal:

hmm, interesting, the 6950 is what i went for. If i went for the cheaper mobo, and 6950, would that affect the speed of running a game like FM2012? Would a better mobo be better for a game like this that isnt graphic intensive?

Good choice. No the motherboard I specced will be ideal. You can get a decent overclock with it too. If you wanted you could get around 4.5ghz with that motherboard and the gelid cooler.

Better motherboards just have more features, which quite a few people will never use!

HDDs have shot up because of the flooding in our eastern suppliers. The Asus P8Z68-V Pro board is a nice one. I hear good things about the GD65 that you can't get your hands on - possibly a competitor, or a similar MSI board?

what's the overall budget?

is the cd drive sata? do people still use cds? thought it was dvds and blue rays now.
can't you use the hard disk from the current pc? if its sata then may as well to save £80-£90
