Right, I've had enough! I've been dealing with random reboots, etc, over the last few weeks and unable to detect what the problem is..

I am hoping to keep the following from the current system:
  • 250gb EVO 850 SSD
  • PSU (700w)
  • Case

I will need:

  • Motherboard (Ideally with dual support onboard gfx card)
  • RAM (16gb)
  • CPU

I dont do much gaming (hence onboard gfx), so dont need anything overly fast, but would like the option to buy faster CPU later, if required (So motherboard needs to support it).

What do you recommend?

Nothing heavy really: office stuff, web surfing, but also photo/video editing.

Which is why I would have been happy to keep my old rig (4 years old) if I had managed to sort the random reboots (some sort of hardware issue with motherboard I suspect):

  • AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
  • Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
  • 16gb Ram

However, as I am buying new kit I might as well buy something decent which will last me for another 4 years.

Budget? I would have though I'd get something decent for £3-400? (assuming I only need those 3 parts)

Just to add, my existing RAM is DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz, but I suspect that not something I will want to base the new machine on, so better off buying faster RAM.?
(I can see DDR3 still being used on some new machines..)

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £380.07
(includes shipping: £11.10)

Whats your current PSU? You can save about 50 quid on what i linked if you backstep to a Z97 build but if you want to upgrade it to i7 in future it may not be available. The ram i linked is nicely discounted at the moment and is good stuff .

I've got 2 available:

OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Certified Modular Power Supply
And an older 550w (I think) Corsair

They are both more than powerful enough, the OCZ has the right connectivity and power to add a high end graphic card at a later date if you want.
