Hi just after a little advice on the following please

I've inherited a xps shuttle sx58j3 albeit with a dead motherboard (i think)

I've tried making a wanted posts for a replacement Shuttle FX58V2 motherboard without success, quite difficult to find a shuttle board i guess. Id really like to resurrect this as its got a i7 930, 4gb ram, 500gb hd etc

So what are my alternatives?
would any other shuttle mobo fit inside the case?
do matx mobos fit inside shuttle cases?

Should i just buy a matx mobo and a small form factor cheapo case?

Another thing, i've never had a setup with tripple channel ram which the x58 series was. I however notice theres only 2x dimms so is it still fine to run 2 slots just at lower performance? or was the shuttle series designed in dual channel? not quite sure as ive never had tripple and never had a shuttle!

Id like to have the shuttle but if the best alternative is to just buy a cheapo 2nd hand matx mobo and case then ill be up for that.

Thanks

Hi

According to the Shuttle site http://us.shuttle.com/barebone/Models/sx58j3.html, the case will take any Mini-ITX board.

I can't see that mATX would fit and I think you'll be hard pushed to find a 1366 m-ITX board though. So on that alone it might be worth ditching the Shuttle.

As for the RAM, all the specs I can see show it has 4 DIMM slots? 1 Black and 3 Red which I would presume takes the tripple channel RAM. Installing dual channel will work as well.

Yes, MBs need new blood as far as form factor. Why are BTXs & DTXs not sold by anyone?

I guess there just not comercially viable at the moment, up untill the 1155 socket you didn't get many m-itx boards but as time goes by it will be easier for more people to make smaller boards as componants such as WIFI adaptors miniturise and need less space on the boards.
