As per title really, looking for a 35mm neg scanner that's compatible with Windows 7 x64. I was wondering any one could suggest a make/model.. All the ones i've seen are only XP/Vista compatible.

I just bought a Summit photofix second hand but unfortunately I can't get it working, not even in compatible mode.

I don't want anything complicated but to just get my collection into digital format. Budget is around £70 otherwise it would be easier/cheaper to get them done in shop.

Thanks

Epson V330 would probably be your best option for around that price, good quality 35mm scans, but it doesn't do 120 if you ever wanted to move onto that. But yeah, without going for the V500 which is like twice the price there's nothing you can do about that, although i suspect you'd want to upgrade at that point anyway.

Dedicated film scanners for anything less than £120 (Plustek style ones) aren't really worth bothering with.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit and have got my scanner working in XP mode (i.e. a virtual machine) using its old 32bit XP driver.

Not worth it is my take, I have tried two options, a Plustek 7400 (the more expensive 7600 just has different software I think) and a Canon 5600F, both are good high quality scanners but scanning more than a couple of strips is tedious work either way. I'd say the dedicated 35mm scanner (the Plustek) is better in that regard and maybe slightly better quality but it's also more expensive and is useless for 120 film obviously.

If you have any quantity at all of film to scan and anything less than the patience of a saint then I'd have to recommend getting it done for you. I'm paying about £12 a roll when I have it developed, it'll be more expensive after the fact but that's a very good lab, you'll find cheaper options I'm sure.

If you do want to scan it yourself though both the mentioned are good bits of kit, the Canon is around £130 though and the Plustek about £200. There are a few Epson options too but more money again. All over your budget I know but it's what I have experience of.

Have you tried emailing the manufacturer of the one you have regarding drivers?

Or maybe even dual boot with XP?

I've got an all in one flat bed scanner (canon 9900F), its a cracking scanner however doing lots of film is a pita!
