Hi I managed to get a 9800x3d CPU and I plan on getting a 5090...eventually when able to. Someone on the 9800x3d thread suggested using GeForce Now and the igpu until then but ive also been told it would be better to get a dedicated gpu until then as igpus aren't powerful enough really.

I'm looking to buy around black Friday and tbh I need basically everything bar the CPU but it seems the main expenditure and biggest differentials seem to be the GPU and Monitor so I'd like to focus on those.

Can I please have some suggestions on GPUs and monitors. I'd like them to be able to hit 4k graphics settings but nothing too spendy regarding the graphics card as I aim to replace it unless I can get good resale value on it quite easily. I went into another retailer and the guy suggested a graphics card that I could get for around £45 and he said that would suffice but i cant remember it and it doesnt obviously need to be thar cheap.

The monitor I'd like to be able to connect the xbox or ps5 to it and also be able to play games at the highest settings if possible and connect my current (standard HD) TV as a second monitor.

A 4K GPU for £45? Can we all get one of those.

Realistically for entry level ok performance at 4k you’re probably looking in the 450-500 range for a 4070 or 7800xt
Yeah lol tbh I don't know if the one hw suggested was 4k but he thought it was adequate for the time between now and getting the 5090

well, if going all in on a 5090, I'd be going higher end screen also
I'm running a LG C4 as my monitor as prefer larger screens..running a 48" as 42" not available here, but would have plumbed for that as ppi is same as a 27" 1440p display. 144hz is good enough for me as play mainly 1st person games or maybe coop, but not really into competetive shooters. lg tv cost me £750, so way cheaper than a monitor and was a compromise

if you want all the eye candy though, I'd be looking at something like the Rog Swift OLed PG32UCDM.. glossy 4k 240hz high refresh qd oled....something that the 5090 can push. but really depends on what OP wants...you like glossy/matt finish, ultrawide? or standard display. really comes down to personal preference in the end. some people hate a large screen, I'm the opposite. work will dual 43" dell ultrasharps...I can't go back to small screens anymore. i need the realestate the size gives for mutiple windows

there are a few qd oled screens around at mo, so can get cheaper ones

gpu wise, I'm with @ben1987, 7800xt will do if wanting new. not too pricey and will give 60fps gaming at 4k before upscaling. 16gb vram will help also. it's 7% faster than a 4070 in raster.. want a bit more performance then the 4070super which is 8% faster than the 7800xt...cheapest around £530 at mo, whereas you can pick up a new 7800xt for £450

You might be able to get a 7700 XT for £300 in the upcoming sales, they were available around that awhile back and they're decently 4K capable in most games, though you won't be turning all the shinies on and playing at Ultra.

Not sure what they're referring to for £45, maybe a RX 470/570? They don't have the grunt to play modern games at 4K though, not a chance of that.

second hand 3070 / 4060 and just DLSS them to play at 4k in the here and now.
using a 3070ti at mo on 4k..perfectly fine on mot games, others can become stuttery..more of a 1440p card..always has been and a 3070ti is 35% more powerful than a 4060...so I's say that's a hard pass
prob just eaier looking at performance chart here...put in the 3070ti as baseline. amd cards have more vram, so might actually work better at 4k than the nvidia, esp the 8gb cards. but if looking 2nd hand, still 7800xt..just got one for £325 from MM, but saw a red devil for £320 used on other site that everyone can access...the 16gb vram will help with 4k textures more. depends if you want to go 2nd hand or new
