Hi

My sister has been bugging me about looking into a cheapish 5.1 system for her, so has anyone got any suggestions?

It's for her living room (about 4-5m by 4-5m).

thanks: )

I was suggested the Panasonic SCHT330 for my parents, its easily had for allmost half the budget. Im assuming you need the lost in one, DVD player, amp and speakers. Well this sounds a lot better than anything else iv heard in the price bracket. Its very good in my experiance of cheaper home all in one kit.

For 200 i was suggested the Pioneer DCS333, i havnt actually heard this though but i trust the guy who pointed me in its direction, my parents wernt willing to spend that much.

thanks i'll look into both suggestions :)

she's got a DVD player already, so the set doesn't need one (although it might be handy if it does), but preferably with optical/co-ax digital inputs (the nephews/brother-in-law like their game systems;)).

the yammy amps have both connections. I use optical for my PC sound card andwas using the coax before i got the DD sound card.

After a lot of research in the last few weeks, we settled on an Onkyo HT-S680 for our mum. It sounds terrific, looks pretty classy, has all the audio/video ins and outs that we need for DTS, etc. It got excellent reviews on a few sites and was just crazy affordable. We paid $300 even for it (£172.50). If you can find a similar model, I highly recommend you check into it. :)

YOu will struggle to get the AV-57 is discontinued.
Denon do a similar package at around the same sort
of price which would be worth looking at!

If shes already got a decent DVD player, and i means it should be a pretty good one, then ignore my suggestion. I thought you were after the whole package.

only just seen this....didn't get the mail to notify me

I'm not sure if it was a competitor now but i found it in a couple of places using google.

Maybe end of line or starting to become that way, but for £180-£200 you can't really go wrong.

IMO these are still "computer speakers" so would avoid.
