Suggestions for a first car

old volvo/toyota? cheap as chips to buy and will probably never break unless you do something stupid?

and since no boyracer would ever dream of touching them the insurance aint that bad either

I've got a Citroen AX as mine;

55,000 on the clock, old lady owner for 12 years, 1.1i engine, mechanically sound, been serviced every 12,000. It's nothing fancy, everything totally standard inside (havent even got a cd player yet  ), no alloys or anything, but i only paid £400 for it, does the job fine for me. :)

Thats the eBay listing.

The only thing that strikes me as dodgy is the fact that he's serviced it himself and the car only has service history for 10,000 miles. (Read the question at the bottom)

Is there any other way in which I could ask him to prove the mileage? What are the chances that it could have been clocked back? Perhaps this is why he's willing to let the car go for less than it appears worth?

Is it actually his car?

"sorry no px he has his eyes on a "mint" ford rs turbo even tho ive tryed to get him in a cosworth"

HE?

I wouldn't bother with it tbh. Never been taken above 50mph?

Plenty of lady owner saxo vtr's floating around on pistonheads etc.

Go and test a mint perfect 5 grand 53 reg vtr from a dealer so you know what they should feel like. One on 44k shouldn't feel that much different to it really, you will know pretty easily if the mileage is genuine.

And to whoever said there wasn't much difference between the VTR and the VTS, ha :p

He's selling the car for his brother, It says at the top of the listing. :)

I know the 50mph thing is bull but at 44k the car shouldn't have too many/if any problems?

There are indeed plenty of VTR's on piston heads, but hardly any are near me and those that are, are crap.

Need to past my test first. :D Very good idea though cheers.

This is what I did. Went to a dealer, there was an 02 plate Possi blue VTR there with 19k miles.

Shame it was £5k. It was really nice to drive so I then had a basic idea on what one should drive like.

44k miles on a Saxo VTR - the sort of car which by its very nature will be ragged around town - would be equivilent to something like 80-100k on a larger car.
