Hello all,

I was asked by the psychology department from my course to help out with creating a sleak new website style. Now ofc, not everything has been finished and this was just a quick mock up that took about, uh... an hour to get right with all the jquery and structure?

So please forgive me if the font appears as default instead of the curvy font that I desired.

Ok, so. I have a basic 2 x 2 square grid with jquery acting as a fade in for the hovers of each cell. When the user clicks they will be taken to a "colour" specific page. After I have the website set up I will go about implementing the system framework that they have already got...

Anyway, my question to you is, how would you improve the general bland layout I have at the moment. Would you just give the cells borders? or would you suggest something else.

here we go:

edit: By the way, I did not chose these colours. I know the yellow is way too bright for the white text. So I am thinking of changing that asap.

Google Chrome doesn't look right. Browser test it. It's a nice simple site. You obviously know the yellow is wrong. Makes it too unreadable.

Doesn't look like you have much content to work with either. Looks more like an advertisement site than an information one. I don't envy having to design sites with little information. That's a graphic designer job ;)

I like the feel of the site, but I suggest you browse other university psych dept sites for inspiration.

Yeh I know what you are saying, I am more of a programmer myself than a designer, however it wasn't being used as a standard site the log in will have it's own system where users will take cognitive tests. They are based on four quadrants with their own "colour" code. that's where the colours come from.

I know there is so little information to put on the site I literally have nothing to work with... thanks for the input, and to the other guy below. I will try and mess around with gradients...

Cheers!

No offence intended but the font you have on the navigation squares is awful IMO.

**EDIT** Like FabienO said, the font looking bad must be a Chrome issue as it is different when viewed in IE 8.

Would you mind showing me a picture of the font issue, as I am not entirely sure now what it is, I have looked through, It seems to be appearing correctly on my browsers. Even with all plugins disabled. I will keep having a look my tiredness is going to be my excuse for today :p

In Chrome which is my default browser, the font shows up like this for me ( apologies for the breakage of the forum tables!! ) :-
