It's rice for dinner tonight but I'd like to do a bit more than just boil it and put it on a plate.

Anyone have any simple rice recipes I can try?

It's to accompany spare ribs and potato salad.

Yep, can't argue with that egg ried rice recipe! The spring onions really make it special, although I like to throw a few slices of Spanish Chorizo in there too as it gives it a nice warmth.

Cardamon (Indian)
Also yellow Indian herb you mix into the water, can't remember the name.

For English meal I would do egg fried rice and some peas. Maybe some peppers too.

Savoury rice.

Onions, sweetcorn, mushrooms, rice, stock or some kind - preferably chicken. Garlic, if you have any.

Chop onions and soften in pan with some oil, add rice and mix about a bit. Give it a minute and add the stock. Add the sweetcorn and mushrooms. Put the lid on and put it on a low heat to let the rice take up the stock, stirring every now and then so it doesn't stick.

Serve and eat. Yummy.

:)

Thanks for all the suggestions. :)

AN Others savoury rice sounds good but the girlfriend wants to try and be Ken Hom for the evening.
I'll be cleaning rice and egg out of the extractor fan tomorrow then.

Unless AN Other fancies hopping onto a 4C bus and showing us how its done?

Well, I would, but I'm up to my ears in revision - exams Mon and Tues next week. Ask me next Wed! Unless you have Pear Beer that is (3rd from the right, as I remember it), in which case I might re-consider  :D

If you are making egg fried rice, always add the egg mix first, then the rice.

This is true, I've found that putting the rice in first can make the mixture sloppy, wait until the egg has begun to cook and harden, then chuck the rice in, break up the egg and stir fry until the egg is thoroughly cooked.
