It seems my Logitech G5 has started to be affected by the cable problem which many users have experienced(random disconnections and freezes). This is my second G5 - with the first one the plastic mechanism holding the scroll wheel cracked! The current one is the second example I had bought and these issues started happening a few months after a year of usage. Hence,I doubt I can get a warranty replacement. The worst thing is that Logitech have not commented on this issue even though it is a well known fault.

I am a bit peed off TBH,as I expected them to last longer and the build quality seems shoddy compared to the MouseMan and MX1000 which I had before. This is the first time that any mouse I have had has given me issues.

Hence,I do need a replacement for around £30(or less). I would ideally like a weight system(or at least some weight) and need a corded laser mouse with backward and forward buttons. Ideally I would like some non-Logitech options and one which at least will last two years.

Of course I could try repairing the mouse or merging the two G5s together. It would after all cost me nothing which would be ideal ATM.

Just speak to Logitech for an RMA. I think they are shipping G400's to replace them atm. Will do you perfectly.

Its well outside the one year warranty period now and I don't know whether I can find the receipt! :(

I bought them new in late 2009(they were on offer at a well known office bits retailer). First one failed in August/September 2010(just after 12 months).

Hey I've been using a Razer gaming mouse now and is still working after 5 years perfectly...would highly recommend their hardware =]

Logitech mice these days have a 3 year warranty, they used to have 5 though iirc. The lowest your G5 is going to have is 3 years so you should be fine still.

That was a pile of fail. Said it was out of warranty. 15 to 18 months operational life for each mouse is a fail and know people who got replacements out of warranty for models not having a design fault like the G5.

I even sent them a link to their own forum show how the fault was identified and fixed by someone - it is down to a design fault in the cable routing.

Then they offered one 50% off voucher valid for 30 days in their overpriced store. I can get many of the items for more or less the same price if I shop around anyway.

I have spent so much money with Logitech, for example,I have had the following products:
1.)Mouseman
2.)2 MX1000
3.)2 G5
4.)G11 V2
5.)G15 V2
6.)LX710 laser desktop
7.)V150
8.)MX Air
9.)MX518

The last two I did not use,so I sold them. I bought both G5 mice at the same time, and since one build I was going to do ended up not happening,I thought I would keep in case I needed it. It was the second G5 I used after the first one failed in barely 18 months.

What a moron,I should have sold that one before I used it.

That means I have had a 29% failure rate on the last 7 Logitech mice I have used.

I am good to avoid them now onwards, and look at some other brands.

So,if people have any more mice suggestions under £30,it would be useful.

I don't have a <£30 suggestion sorry, but I went from a g5 to a razer imperator and it felt pretty similar, although shallower (great for me as the g5 gave me cramps).

My brother recently got a g400 (or 500? Idk) but I don't like the scroll wheel on it. It has a switch. One mode it lumpy, but feels completely unstable and the wheel wobbles. The other is smooth. Not sure why people would want a smooth scroll..

When my MX518 developed a wiring fault I managed to fix it pretty easily. I opened the mouse up, determined where the fault was, cut the cable either side of the fault and soldered it back together.

The fault on mine was at the point where the cable enters the front of the mouse. Two of the inner wires had snapped over time and were making contact only in certain situations.

I did manage to get a money off code from Logitech though so bought a new mouse with that ad have the MX518 as a spare.

After a bit of further communication with Logitech CS,they decided to replace both G5 mice with a pair of G500 mice. I think one of the factors was that I have bought a lot of their higher end gear.

So a big thank you for Logitech CS in the end.
