My daughter has just managed to pass the selection process for a place at United World Colleges she is one of about 40 successful UK students to be offered a place from over 600 applicants.

UWC is a global group of non-profit schools offering the international baccalaureate diploma which then leads onto university.

Each college brings together students from all over the world. The basic idea is that people from all over the world study together, they will work together and it can inspire students to discover what connects us all as humans, and to act as champions for a world of peace, collaboration and understanding.

She is desperate to go, but it is going to cost over £70k over the two years she will be there and there is simply no way we can afford that. UWC do offer financial help, but understandably this is offered to students from developing countries first. UWC is a non-profit organisation so there really is only so much they can do.

The purpose of this thread is to ask for suggestions and ideas to find alternative sources of funding - are there charities, foundations etc that we should be talking to?

Cheers guys.

Don't tend to hear much about scholarships in this country unless you're either exceptionally gifted, or from a very poor background. I'm not even sure sports scholarships are much of a thing here either.

Have you spoken to some of the colleges to ask if there are scholarship programs about?

Good luck either way!

A friend mentioned that the rotary club occasionally help with study fees.

Is there anybody here that is a member and has any extra information?
