Hi folks, I've been slowly upgrading, or starting to, and now I want to really speed this thing up, and get it looking better too.
Currently I have:
Opteron 144 with Zalman cooler
ECS KN1 SLI (short term measure as DFI board went a bit wrong, voided warranty...)
Sapphire X1900XT
1GB crappy RAM
200 and 300GB Seagate SATAs
17" IBM CRT
Lian-Li PC60 from ages ago
Tagan 480W PSU of some kind
ZBoard and MX510 which I'm happy with
I was wondering about the change to AM2, I really want a new mobo and RAM anyway, and AM2 seem to go faster, and I guess it's more future proof.
Wish list is for CPU, motherboard, RAM, case, cooling. I want it to be as quiet as possible. I like this monitor, I'll switch if I can find a good enough large LCD, I just tend to play dark games and still not seen an LCD that works as well as this.
So far I've looked at:
CP-172-AM AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.60GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-172-AM)
£189.95 £189.95
MB-103-AB Abit Fatal1ty AN9 32X (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-103-AB)
£124.95 £124.95
MY-071-OC OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 Dual Channel Special Ops XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2SOE8002GK) (MY-071-OC)
£139.95 £139.95
WC-003-ZA Zalman Reserator1-Plus Fanless Water Cooling System - Black (WC-003-ZA)
£135.95 £135.95
Subtotal £590.80
VAT £103.39
Total £694.19
Not sure about a case, really like the look of the Kandalf, any good?
I'm thinking of putting up to £1500 towards it, so I'm not sure what else would be good.
I just want a really fast machine for gaming!
Any advice is much appreciated as I'm not that up to date to what is "good" right now, so far I'm guessing a bit! I chose the Zalman for sound levels over anything really.
Thanks again
Sid
