Suggestions on a new rig....

Hi there,

Im about to build a new rig on a budget of £500. This is what i have....

Antec 300 Three Hundred Case
OCZ Stealth Xtream 500W PSU PCI-E 6/8pin, 2x SATA 12cm Fan 135159
AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz Socket AM3 6MB L3 Cache Retail Box Processor
ASUS M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G Socket AM3 DVI VGA Out 8 CHannel Audio MATX Motherboard
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz Memory Kit Unbuffered CL9

p.s i know there is no HDD present as i already have 1 at home i can use.

a bit of everything really but mostly gaming. games such as ArmA 2, CoD:MW2 and Bad Company 2, stuff like that.

youre gonna want a better gfx card then, what res do you play at?

Not a very high res, only about 1280x1024. so i would probably stick with that as i think if i go above that then i need a new monitor.

Pick up a ATI Radeon HD 5750 instead if you want to stick to the same budget, faster card, supports Direct X 11 and similar price to the GTS 250. If you can afford another £25 then the 5770 is a really nice card.

Hmm sounds interesting, thanks for the info. ill have a look into the 5770 then. What do you think to the other parts of the rig ?

if your really in to your games and you ever decide to go 1080p i rekon you go with a 5850.

Would love to if i had the money, im trying my best to stick to the £500 mark as it is. i will be happy with a HD 5770 i think. any suggestions of the rest of the rig tho like CPU, mobo etc?.....

Case I would use is a well built case small and tidy and looks good from how much this costs!

This does go over your bugdet slightly when you take in to acount the graphics card cost but components selected will play the latest games with no issues and its more futher proof in my eyes well whorth going that little bit extra.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Im probably going to stick with an AMD machine tho as ive read AMD performs better in gaming than the i3 and in some cases i7.

Also i like the idea of have a quad core phenom.

might consider the case tho

I would look at these parts:

AMD Phenom II X4 945 ~ £122

You could get the X4 955BE for a few quid more but it is a 125W TDP processor.

MSI 770-C45 AM3 ~ £49

This has a 4+1 phase VRM so should fine for some overclocking with 95W TDP processors but not with 125W TDP processors.The motherboard also has the HD4200 IGP with 128MB of dedicated DDR3 RAM.

OR

Asus M4A785TD-V EVO ~ £71

This has an 8+2 phase VRM wth cooling and hence can be used to overclock even 125W TDP processors.

Crucial 4GB 1333MHZ DDR3 ~ £80

Be Quiet 530W Pure Power PSU ~ £44

LiteOn iHOS104 ~ £52

HD5770 1GB ~ £125

There are both HIS and MSI cards available for around £125.
