Looking for one with a broadcom chipset as it seems to get the better sync speeds.

Getting tempted by some of the £150 to £250 draytek but need to do more research. The only other company ive really been interested in are cisco/linksys.

Would be happy with one that actually can handle a fair amount of connections.

I have a selection of thompson, billion, netgear and some solwise thing.

Used linksys in the past as well.

Main issue is when they have really low memory/cpu power on them, and the interface is so painfully slow. I was shocked when I found out the netgear seems to be the best out of everything i got here pity the wifi drops out!

Having issues with adsl line atm, but I think its a line problem. Worked fine for a year+ at 15mb, line tests at 19mb but it drops out, due to errors on the line (this was proved and ext cables were swapped for the phone line) 3hours later the errors start up again, currently down to 6mb and its very close to dropping out still, dropping from 24db left over too 8db.

Anyway, as all the routers are 1 year old and currently the dg384gt is most stable, best error reporting.

Spam over! Anyway I know i have line issues atm, just looking at getting a stable modem.

Two links to pretty graphs of my 'stable' adsl line!

I'd recommend a Billion 7800N. I've been very happy with mine. It's been very stable for me on my long line. I tried, and eventually got a refund on, a Netgear DGND3700 that kept dropping the connection.

However, if you used to sync at 15 Mbps and you're now down to 6 Mbps, there's more wrong with your line than can be sorted by a new router!

We use the Draytek 2820 and 2830's for many of our customers. Never had a moments trouble.

Swings and roundabouts. I use a Netgear DGND3700 and it has never given me any problems. In fact i love it.

There is no doubt there are line problems at the moment, I'm just looking to replace current one anyway.

I've had them put it on a 6mb profile at the moment,

14:00, 15mb profile, from 14:05 6mb profile.

I wasn't disconnecting but still had massive drops until 15:33 and it starts again!

Strangely i have a DG834GT and a Billion 7800N. The Billion is in its box and i'm using the DG834GT with DGTeam v1.03.23 firmware, its solid and the wifi i find as good as the 7800N strangely (even G vs N).

Thats a lot of resyncs, what ISP it it and have you tried the router in the test port at the master socket (NTE5) thus disabling any extenion? See http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

Since a few years ago, only have one socket in the house and coldless phones else where, directly in the master socket! It is a line problem, the netgear has sync'd fine in the past, but the wifi always seems to stop giving out ip's, i would blame the dhcp server but it doesnt happen via ethernet.
^ Doesn't matter, something i've learnt to live with!

I'm not blaming the modem, just thinking of replacing it. But I am going to look at firmwares for the netgear now! I didnt really pay for most of theses i have atm anyway. Most are old ones that were used in an office at one stage!

What firmware on the DG834GT?
I found issues with DHCP on older firmwares but the last one (v1.03.23) was great. I'm running the DGTeam equivalent of this and its also rock solid.

Also i had noise issues on IPStream products even after a lift and shift at the exchange but over the last month on TalkTalk LLU its been fine....i think the BT kit in the exchange is past its best! I started off ok for a few years so it wasnt a sudden thing, the kit in the exchange is currently at least 6 years old assuming they fitted new kit and havent ever changed it.

Only been on v1.03.23 around 24hours tbh, Recently put new life into this router after many months, mainly as the logging program i had made nice graphs when connected to the netgear and i wanted to know what was happening with the line.

And i'm looking at DGTeam currently, may well try it later.

ISP isnt important, on some crappy no choice what so ever due to where i live dont even have bt lines! aka karoo.

But giving it credit, I've had very decent 8mb access for years, and 15mb for quite some time too (12months+). So this is something outside, line wise possibly connected to the weather.

Have you considered using the netgear or which ever gives best ADSL performance as s PPPoE modem and using another for WiFi?

Upgraded the firmware on the netgear to dgteam's one, which was fun if a little annoying.

Web upgrade got to 100% then didnt reboot, glad i had access to a a winxp pc to do the recovery. All working now, getting a little more faith in the router. My adsl line is still awful but thats another matter.

Will see how the wifi works with the new firmware, i do have a couple of other access points but again theses had a history of needing to be re powered each day!

My original thoughts were go for the draytek as the old adsl1 version i had, and used as a vpn sever was great + very stable. But as I said, the netgear may of been misjudged.

I did ask to go on a 6mb profile, as its been up and down so much while they attempt to fix the line. Paste is just for the sake of it!

SNR (dB): 28.3 10.4
Attn(dB): 18.5 10.7
Pwr(dBm): 19.1 12.6
Max(Kbps): 18776 1126
Rate (Kbps): 6144 1021

Yes its in the master socket, directly. Have used 5 random other filters as well, so its not that either.

It is almost for sure a line problem outside of my control, They will be looking at the line on Tuesday again. I was just looking at replacing router, as I've wanted too for sometime. I am happy with the netgear on the new firmware.
