Hi,

Annoying as ever I'm back! :D

having lots of thoughts about spec/use for a matx PC & have decided to make the best of both & get 2 machines on the go :)

On the matax side of things I got stuck at the case:

SG01 or SG03?

03 sounds a better bet because of 120mm fans but other than that I could be persuaded either way :)

Any reason to choose 01 over 03?

well the sgo1e is squat while the sg03 is tall. Depends on what you're after and what you're putting in it.

The SG01 can't take long length graphics cards like 8800gtx for example, it also doesn't like quad cores in my opinion.

I found the extra fan size, as well as their position, really gives the SG03 an advantage.

Plus it's t3h secks!!! :p

If you remove the hard drive caddie I believe it can take longer cards. I have a 8800 640mb GTS installed in mine with a quad core running at 2.9ghz.

Both great cases, the 3 is newer and has better cooling supposedly :)
Think it comes down to what u like the look of the most , cube or micro tower :)

yeah but how hot is that quad and not everyone wants or can remove the caddy - I've got 2 hard drives.

I got the SG02 and altho the front is not ally its still a great looking little case and has the exact same innards as the SG01... And its about £25 cheaper so you can spend the cash on more important things like memory or the next gfx card up :)

I was looking to use the zalman flower cooler thingy (horizontal one) for the cpu - from what I'm reading sg01 is a tight fit? sg03 fit ok?

ta for any info :)

sorry to jump into ** thread but im looking to build a cheap hacintosh unti.

So if i remove the drive caddie an x1950xt would fit in there ok? It is a dual slot card so will I still be bale to access a pci slot?

Had a brain wave over lunch and decided to get a SG02B for my HTPC. Hope my 8600GT fits into it as it does have a massive heatsink (passive card).

Also a little concerned that the DVD drive and PSU aint to long.... guess time will tell.

Gotta love impulse buying :)

Been a while since i've been in SFF (totally lost touch with anythin SFF lol)

If you've got a decent PSU then the SG01 should be fine. yes its a tad cramped but its my understanding that the psu fan will work as a good exhust fan for the cpu cooler

I remember reading of people doing this with the Silverstone NT06 cooler

Personally i've never liked the SG03's they look too big to be a SFF for me but then i've always had shuttles up until recently which are generally smaller than any sugo lol (the old skool G-type chassis that is)

You are right, the sg03 does look big. I replaced my sb75g2 shuttle with the sugo, Even though its the same foot print & only twice as tall it just looks BIG! Ended up moving mine under the desk in the end, totally goes against what sff is all about.
Having said that its a very very nice case & I would certainly buy another.

Until they start cramming all the features of a microATX board onto something like a miniITX board, it's not going to change.

Versatility is proportional to size tbh. With a Shuttle, you don't get to change the motherboard/cooling very easily. With microATX you do. But microATX is bigger as a result. :)

I've got the SG01 Evolution in black with a window and it's great. Decent cooling when you install fans into all the free locations and fit the crossflow fan Silverstone sell seperately - provides good air circulation. I've also modded my CD Rom drive using the brushed aluminium covers so it is ghosted.

One of the things I like best about it is the interior is also painted black so you don't get that cheap silver metal look on the bays etc when you look inside. The entire thing just reeks of quality, probably the best case I've owned. Just ordered the MFP51 VFD media bay thingy yesterday too! Can't wait!

Also handy is Silverstone do PSU's with shorter cables to fit the SG01 and SG03, add to the fact that Silverstone PSU's are actually very good PSU's anyway and you're sorted :)
