Right, bought a silverstone sugo to replace my aspire q-pack, since it was on offer
So my system: abit va-20, athlon xp-m 2600, 2x512MB Corsair 2700 RAM, PNY 6600 geforce card, 1x 120GB WD hard disk, 1x DVD-RW drive, 1x DVD-ROM drive, seasonic 430W power supply, zalman fanless copper flower cooler (yikes oldies but goodies)
should be no problems...
Looking at the website, i bought:
1x Silverstone sugo case
1x Silverstone fan mate
1x 80 mm Amber Akasa
1x 60 mm Amber Akasa
with the thought of throwing out the dvd-rom drive to house the fan mate.
it arrives, very very nice looking case i must say, makes the q-pack look real shoddy. its longer/deeper, but shorter.
this is due to the method of placing of the power supply. in the q-pack, its above the expansion slots, whereas in the sugo, its above the cpu/top half area of the motherboard. good clearance of my heatsink between the cpu and the power supply, upon installation, but bad in the sense that the case fan exhaust is now over the expansion slots, and not above the cpu, which in my fanless heatsink setup might be bad (the q-pack had a nice big 120 mm fan right above my heatsink). but anyway, i digress.
First thing i notice, is that the insides are slightly different from the web pictures; they have changed how the case exhaust fan is. no longer is it the 1x60 mm fan that would fit flush against the back of the case, it is now a 1x80 mm fan that is fitted into a bracket at an angle (the bracket which will now also house a second 80 mm fan for the top exhaust). so. no idea how to check which version of the case it is, but note, the sugo i recieved has 2x 80 mm fans, not 1x60 and a 1x80. oh and why one 80mm fan comes with a two pin connector (easy peasy to put with the fanmate) this one on the exhaust (replaced with akasa), and one only with the 4 pin molex pass through, this one on hard disk drive cage (replaced with the one replaced with the akasa), i have no idea.
anyhow. the sugo is a lot more fiddly to put together than the q-pack, a lot a lot more screws . And make sure you have a really long screwdriver- a lot of the screws i had to unscrew at a kind of angle, with the handle getting in the way. If you have a long screwdriver, they have cut out nice holes in the places where the cases will get in the way, making it much much easier.
other problems i encountered was that i planned to put the dvd-rw drive below the fan mate, but it turns out that for some reason, the bottom of that cage is a lot tighter fit than the top- a bit of squealing metal went on until i gave up trying to force it
the x-qpack wins out where the hard drives are kept, as it has the entire bottom front half of the case free to hide cables under. the sugo puts its hard disks there, so there is even less room to put excess cables than in the q-pack. have to say, being longer, the length of your drives is now a lot less of an issue, and easier to put in those ata cables.
will load some pictures when i get home and take it apart again after checking stability and neaten it up a bit more
oh and the spare 60 mm fan i have? well, thats now wedged between the psu and the multiport out of the motherboard (you know, the keyboard, lan, usb, etc), using no screws, and is sucking hot air away from my heatsink, so no waste there
