Putting together an i7 920 with asus rampage mATX board and corsair 850W power supply into an SG-01, but the cooler that I got, a very low noise scythe shuriken revB low profile is not up to the task of cooling it in the case-
at full load, its ~80 degrees with the case uncovered, and ~95 degrees with the case covered (for the short bit I let it go that way...)....

I am pretty certain the problem is that the large northbridge passive heatsink of the mobo is not being cooled sufficiently, and there's just a large buildup of hot air around the whole back end of the unit- any coolers out there that people may recommend? or should i replace the 10 mm fan with something that will shift more air? Or is the placement of the power supply in the case is such that i need to reverse the direction of the fan in the power supply?

thanks in advance

Silverstone Nitrogon is a great cooler, specifically designed for those cases.

If you're looking at just improved airflow in the case generally, look at the crossflow exhaust fan for those cases.

Check to see if it's seated correctly as those temps are to high.
What case fans have you got ? the default silverstones don't push much air, also is it a modular psu or normal with wires everywhere :o ?

Can also flip the psu upside so its not fighting for air with the cpu cooler, Had mine like this for over a year, i just lift the rear of the case a couple of mm.
Improves cpu temp and psu temp!

If you want a silverstone crossflow fan, message me as ive had one sat in the cupboard gathering dust for years :)

edit: oops too late, ordered one already....
I've checked the seating, it looks good and proper- i think though that my paste hasn't quite settled in yet in the heat- its now about 5 degrees lower than it was yesterday.

got an nt06 too, i know it won't work with the crossflow mounting point, but will see which is better. its the modular version, but my cable tidying hasn't occured yet, as things are still in flux :)

Ok, bits arrived and some construction went on.
Results:
NT06 that I got did not come with LG1366 mounting bits so trying to get that, or return.
The crossflow fan helps a fair bit, brought it down to about 90oC at full load with the case fully covered.
Whats interesting is that the core temp program that I was using to monitor was reporting that the TDP of my cpu is coming back at 147.3W, I thought the i7's TDP was 135W. Maybe this is why the cooler is struggling so badly. have yet to turn the pins of the hsf fan around; it really feels like the psu and hsf are working against each other. May have to find a 90/120 mm fan to replace that super thin one on the hsf which is a funny 100mm size.
edit: oh yeah, my turned down my overclock a bit too, now at 165x21, at 1.18V, from 175x21 at 1.38V or so
