Sugo SG01 - Graphics Card Decision

Finally going to get my upgrade and i've narrowed it down to two. The 8800GT or the 3870XT. My main plan was to not use this as a gaming rig but thats just not happening. At the moment i have my old 1950XTX in there, which is hot noisy and annoying.

Looking to get a card that will run as cool and as quiet as possible, without raising my case temps to much (current card has added 10 degrees on the cpu just on idle alone)

So which one should i go for, and with what cooler?

Erm... i'm not a fan of the 8800GT stock cooler in a SFF case. I had one in my SG03 and the cooler doesn't expel the air out the back, it just lets it build up inside, which causes the case to get warm - in fact after some NFS Carbon, mine was too hot to touch! :o

It is the faster card though - so if you're willing to put a third party cooler on i'd go for it, otherwise get the 3870XT. The 3870 is plenty fast enough for modern games anyway. :)
 
Totally agree with Tute,

I bought an 8800gt as it would fit in my shuttle case, another annoying factor of the 8800GT is the fan noise when it ramps up! I ended up taking it out and replacing with a 3850 which is cooler and quiter.

The 8800GT now has an aftermarket cooler and used in a MATX box
