Right, I am fed up with having a superfast DX10 card depreciating in my PC and no games to play on it.

PC gaming has died a death with me since Christmas and with the FSX DX10 patch & Spore now delayed to the end of the year I am struggling to justfy the PC I built at Xmas, which is the currently world's most expensive forums browser :-(

What would be a good value DX9 alternative that would enable me to get shot of the 8000GTX and still play DX9 games, occasionally, at a decent rate?

X1950Pro? It must be a very quiet card also for the majority of the time when I am not gaming. Let's say around £100. I'd rather clear £170 on the deal and downgrade for the rest of the year than let the GTX continue to bleed cash whilst not being fired in anger.

NOTE: Asking for advice, not offers, that's what MM will be for!

7600 gt most games i have fly on it the xpertvision one has a meaty heatsink
got mine at 600/1500 np at all and it's around £55 new as long as 1024-768 is ok for you.

at least youve seen the light y anyone buys a 8800gtx is beyond me utter waste of money. The only reason i can see to buy one is if you got a massive monitor otherwise total waste. All the next gen games start coming out after summer so thats best time to get a top end card at least you wont be guessing about dx10 performance and other issues. Also the two card companys should have similar performing cards out together so lots more choice .whats point in having 50000 fps in cs .play with current card or get a mid range one to last few months.wont go down much in price and be able to game and not lose loads of money.

I have seen the light and I'm not ashamed to admit it, but the PC upgrade was a major one, it's not as if I upgrade more than once per year. It was too big a leap in one go I think and I'd rather cut my losses than feel the need to upgrade again at Xmas.

Resolution: 1680x1050, never need much more than 2x AA for my linking.

Game: FS9, Heroes of Might & Magic, Civilization, UFO. I've played Oblivion to death and that ran okayish on my old rig with a 6800GT.

No overclocking required, I look for silence over speed these days, at my age :-)

Mainly turn based stuff which means I could probably use integrated GFX if it wasn't for my liking for Flight Simulator. But I am not going near FSX until it's patched and service packed up to DX10 standard.

Well for me there's only 4 cards worth considering 8800 gts 1950 pro/xt
and the good old 7600gt.

If you realy want to save some money theres that thread on the 7300GT. I no it aint the best card in the world but im sure it would manage your turn based games fine and the odd fps low-mid settings. You certainly aint going to lose much money on it at that price.

ok so you have seen the light but seriously............. you want to get rid of the card? whats the point?

So he doesn't lose another £100 on the gfx cards value over the next couple of months?

but then he will still lose out, say he loses £100 in selling the card and what he bought it for, now he has a cheaper older card which will depreciate in value, then when he sells that he needs to buy the more expensive card again, just keep it, you shouldnt of bought it in the first place but now that you have it you have learned your lesson and wait and think about things rather than impulse buying

Another one lesson learned, you dont buy a card for something that isn't here yet, especially for something that could turn out to be about a year away anyway from when the 8's came out, although i can't really see why you want to sell it as you have the fastest Dx9 card you can get at present, and thats all they should be bought for, Dx9, the GTX is not just a Dx10 card you know, it can run Dx9 to so theres no point getting shot, just take it out of the box and use it now for Dx9, don't wait for Dx10 before installing it. :p

thats what i was thinking - its still 'the best' card there is so to be honest - just keep it! dont let anyone else get a cheaper GTX and therefore benefit from your mistake - play DX9 games at MAX all the time - i would just live with it personally

Trouble is, I have lost my way in gaming this year and the card doesn't get the use it should. To put it another way, I cannot in any way justify a £400 GFX card in my PC for the amount of gaming I do.

If I was playing games of any kind then the DX9 at Max argument would suffice, but I don't spend more than 2-3 hours gaming a week at the moment which makes for a very high cost per hour.

I don't think that position will change either, what with the deplorable PC games release list for the next 8 months.....

Yep i can't understand why ppl are complaning about having no Dx10 games yet for the 6 month old 8 series, shouldn't buy them for Dx10, should buy them for their awesome Dx9 performance, the now, then when Dx10 gets here you get another card for it, its what im doing, got no interest in my GTS having Dx10, it can't be used yet so why would i be, its an awesome Dx9 card that i can use now. :)

i must admit that i do see your point there and its very much valid although i would suggest that you hang on a wee bit longer to see if you have a change of heart.

How much would you be able to get for the card as a matter of interest mate?

Heh, if soliciting doesn't rate a 'collar feeling' by the mods, then I'm certainly sure answering that question would :D
