Suitable environment for my equipment?

Hi guys,

I've just moved house and I'm considering various places I can store my networking kit. The sort of stuff I have is a; UPS, PDU, NAS, modems, router, switch etc, all in a wall mounted 12U rack.

The ideal location for it would be inside a sort of outhouse tacked onto the side of the house. The door can be made secure enough, there's power and a decent wall to hang the cabinet off. The thing I'm not sure about is that the room is ventilated from holes in the door and given which direction it's facing it will be exposed to the elements quite a bit. There's no chance that rain would get in but I'm worried about extremes in hot/cold, humidity and damp.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter? Is it going to cause me problems later down the line if I'm keeping sensitive equipment in those conditions?

If the location is ideal for yourself you can easily make it water tight and warm enough from a trip to B&Q.

What about attic space?

We have some suitable attic space, I kind of made it runner up to the outhouse because I used to keep all this kit in the attic at the old house and it used to get really hot in summer! I was worried it would be more of the same, it's not going to be easy to ventilate the attic at this new place.

The equipment should be relatively warm without any other units to help the matter, do you reckon that's enough to combat humidity/damp?
