I used to have one of the Seagate Momentus XT HDDs in my MBP. I can't say that I was that impressed by it. It didn't feel any different from having a 7,200 RPM drive in the machine.

I currently have an SSD as my primary HDD and my old 500GB Seagate drive where the DVD drive should be.

A friend had the momentus which was touted as the best of both worlds when the reality was that it wasn't really any faster than a 7200rpm mechanical hd. Get an SSD. It will be the best upgrade you have ever purchased by a country mile.

that sort of money buys you eg. 480GB crucial m500 or 500GB Samsung 840 Evo.

Evo being my choice.

if that budget is for both external HDD and SSD, simply get 240/250GB flavours for around £130.
