Weird question right?? Basically, want the power of a desktop but on my lap... No matter how much you spend on a laptop, it aint gonna be as good as a high spec desktop. I wanna be semi socialable and use it while on the sofa while my other half is on facebook (she's hooked dammit), instead of sitting at a desk in my cold spare room...

So aiming on building a bad boy pc that i can chuck behind the sofa or something with a wireless keyboard and mouse, and a longish monitor cable. So leaves me with a monitor on a plank of wood or something lol, is there anything out there better suited? Was thinking of one of them server pull out monitor units, but they cost like £1k... Ill prob have to mod something otherwise, which means ill break it!

Any ideas?

Cheers,

DM

It'd have to be something small maybe 15'' even then it wont be as thin as a laptop one.

I don't know if you can tell from my beautiful drawing but basically it is;

Brown = Wood
With a monitor fitted into it and the same with keyboard - actually taken some of the wood out and fitted them in.
Now with the mouse maybe just next to them or somesort of slideout tray again you could take a bit of wood out and fit a mouse mat in.
the hole at the top is just for wires or what have you.

Dont know if it'd work though.

cheers guys, ill just google it a lil more, see if there's anything out there, or come up with some sorta solution. Was also thinking of getting a slightly bigger screen and wacking it on my coffee table a coupla feet away. Hey, could also use my lcd tv, but doubt i'd be too popular blowing away zombies in L4D when other half wants to watch dancing on ice or something lol.

> Liked the pic btw ;) was the sorta thing that was going through my head... If i did it though, it would look nasty like a 10yr olds woodwork project :o Think ill stick with my laptop for a bit and keep this in the back of my head till i can think of an easy solution...

If your gonna do a proper setup it has to be a proper setup! ie..conventional desk with speakers etc etc! big monitor! and so on...

I just can't see how this can be done.

couldn't u buy an old laptop take out the keyboard. plop in a wifi laptop style keyboard. use a wifi vga cable to connect to the laptop screen a bit of soldering would be needed. use the track pad from the laptop somehow with wifi :P

i think that would be ur best bet if you were to mod, i'm sure it could be done :D

all u need is a dead laptop with a working screen :D
