Summer is approaching... Thunderfly/bug defence for LCD panels?

Bloody hell - that sounds like a nightmare! You've got me quite scared now  I don't think it should be an issue up here in Newcastle for me, but you never know.....I too would be interested in hearing more on this
iave had one crawling around my screen before was lucky enough that it went off the screen before dying...

Not got a tft monitor but this got me thinking about my hd tv though. I have seen a few bugs come to an untimely demise in my case trying to "love" my uv cathodes only to be sucked through fans :D

Ive had one of these too before when I lived in the countryside(damn the amount of bugs and huge *** spiders we had to kill) This one was happily cruising around my monitor area, but now his gone thankfully. and we have moved home back into the city area, so I shouldnt have the problem :)

Had thunderflies trying to get to my computer last year, resolved problem by buying a small UV fly killer and placing it on window sill in computer room, you can buy them for as little as £14.99 from any hardware store, attracts them and frys them... ;) If you have fine net curtains on your windows that also helps keep them out... :D

the ideal trick, get some old tea bags and some verry strong cent which smells nasty, (cant remember the name of it, my mum knows lol) and it stinks so much that it even puts cats from stop coming in ** garden, not a single fly came in my room last year.

appart from one that didnt come through the window and decided to go in the side of my case through the fan then into the graphics card fan then down the graphics cards wind tounel then splat into the wall behind my pc as it launched out of the graphics cooler out of the case

the bugs get in between the clear plastic panel and the actual lcd itself. the only safe way to make sure they dont get in is to tape around the entire lcd panel sealing the gaps. but to do that, you have to take your monitor apart...

That happened to me too :D

I think it must have died now, coz I haven't seen it in ages?

I could be happily typing away, and it would just suddenly appear and start marching around the screen

A temporary resolution was to switch the monitor off for 10 mins and by then it would have vanished?

I had a similar problem with my old Netgear switch - about ten of them got behind the front plastic and onto the connection LEDS... that went straight on the Bay!

But with the summer coming and a new TFT purchase approaching, I'm getting worried? I think I'll get one of those electric zapper things ;)

ok iv really just thaught oh no about this, i have 8 blue neons and 9x 12cm blue led fans in my case and theres not a single bit of mesh or anything to stop things going inside my case

iv removed every bit of mesh or grill possible to just let 100% air get inside it

O.O!!!!

i think ill be taping some tights to my monior vents, allow air ventilation and will still keep out bugs. though i live in a town where we have a shell oil refinery thats as big as the town. that normally keeps away any wildlife.

(search ellesmere port on google maps)

lol,

you know the front bay covers on the thermaltake armour how they have mesh things, well iv removed all them covers lol cause i got 3x 12cm fans down the front to let air in..

+ iv removed the mesh from the 25cm side fan O.O....

if i put a pair of tights (is that what there called?) over them, would it stop them getting in? and allso can they get in on the fans that are pushing air Out?

thanks

Hello,

Ok, the summer is approaching and I want to be ready for this years infestation of thunderflies/bugs.

They are tiny black flies a few mm in length which get everywhere, maybe a week or two weeks in the summer we tend to get infested with them in East Yorkshire.

Last year, 1 decided to die behind my Viewsonic VX910 screen and believe me, the size of it, its worse than a cluster of dead pixels. Thankfully it was very close to the bottom of the panel. One mate of mine had litrally hundreds die inside his LCD TV, luckily for him the retailer saw how bad it was and replaced it but I am sure many companies just disregard the issue.

What's the best defence at stopping these little blighters getting into LCD flat panels and dying causing untold grief to hundreds of owners?

Now I have my shiny new Dell 2407WFP I seriously don't want them dying behind the panel on this.

Is it just a case of locking the room down and covering the panel with something? :D

ta,

Mike

Some one told me that they where actually corn flies. Thunderbugs are larger and almost ladybird sized but black and with out the spots.

Yes they get everywhere.
There so small they set smoke alarms off

Used to live in a village just south of York and you'd be crawling if you go out in summer with a white t-shirt on. Not much fun when your playing cricket !

Seal your windows and don't use your PC at night or in low light. Then they'll be attracted to the lightbulbs rather than your nice new monitor.

Horrible little things, not as bad as the flying ant invasion York City centre seams to get every year. Now they are bad !

Oh the fun of summer is nearly on us,
Bugs in your room at night keeping you awake.
Dirty blue bottles buzzing around your house for days.
Jelly tot spoting on a lunch time ;) !

Not really to do with flys on monitors but during daddy long leg season 2 of these buggers managed to get sucked into my case and survive, and with having a window on my case i could see it flying around inside, was quite amusing for a short period until the noise of it being blown around inside got to much to bear so i opened the case up :D

i've got 3 behind one of my monitors :(

It was wierd as I was housesitting my ex gf's house in Summer, and the monitor wasn't positioned near any windows are anything but 3 of the blighters managed to die behind my screen! I had none happen before and none since, and that was about 2 and a half years ago! Strange, but very annoying :(
