FINALISTS CAN BE SEEN OPENING THEIR BINS HERE: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24765394&postcount=248

The summer continues to heat up but we have an awesome promotion that will keep you cool and give you a chance to win a whole stack of gaming goodness.

How To Enter?
You need to send us images or video of how you keep cool when you’re gaming. The more original and inventive the better but for my own sanity let’s keep it respectable (this does not apply to females…jokes). Entries must be posted into this thread, one entry per forum member.

The Prizes?
Kicking off today, the prize pot will start with a mighty KFA2 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 and a copy of Splinter Cell Blacklist but every day the pot will keep growing with more cool gaming gear. Come back each day to see what else you can win. The more entries we get the bigger the pot will grow.

The Twist
No competition is complete without a little twist. Whilst the cool prize bin grows an identical ‘not so cool’ bin will also grow. One of you will win glory another will win the bin of junk…. but who will it be.

Once the competition closes, judges from Overclockers UK, KFA2 and NVIDIA will check through ALL the entries and select a 1st and 2nd finalist depending on which make us laugh or cringe the most!
The 1st place finalist will get to choose either Bin A or Bin B but without knowing whether it has gaming goodness or random rubbish!!

We’ll send the bins out that day and you must video yourself opening your bin once they reach you and send the results back to us for a chance to win a bonus prize. We want to see your reactions!!

Day 2 has been updated! Now include KFA (LTD) Limited Edition Watch for the goodies bin, and an emergency shelter for the bad bin!

Extreme temps call for extreme measures

I freeze my vest until it's literally ice cold. I also say "screw you!" to safety regulations and have my tower fan on the windowsill :D

THE DIY GUIDE ON STAYING COOL WHILE GAMING THIS SUMMER

So, you've decided that you will stay in while its nice and sunny outside. Good call, those steam summer sale games aren't gonna complete themselves.

I hear you complaining that your too hot while gaming. Well, i'm in the same boat as you and here are the top tips on keeping you and your system cool.

1. Identifying you have a problem.

This may not seem too bad but after a long day with the computer on and a few hours gaming the ambient case temperatures soon reach high 40's and that can put some un-needed stress on your system, not to mention making your fans scream at you.

2. Now you have a problem, we need to sort it. This requires getting good air circulation in your man cave. Ahhh, I hear you say. I'll just open this window to let some air in. But whats this. THERE'S NO WIND.
No problem. Get yourself some beefy SILENT 300mm fans and your good to go.

Yes, that's right, there's TWO 300mm fans. And here's a nice video to show you how silent they are :).

Also available as a captioned flick-book. VROOM

With poor video capabilities comes quiet fans :)

3. You've reached a thermal equilibrium with outside (hmm fancy words) but you need some more direct airflow to keep your feet and computer running cool.
Bring on the desk fan.

Nothing special but it does the job nicely.

4. Now I hear you complaining that your head is getting a bit toasty. DAMN, STOP COMPLAINING.
The solution. TWO 120mm fans, a cap, a solar panel, some tape and a USB printer cable.

The outcome, a sore nose.

Nobody can be without a solar fan cap these days, and YOU can build one yourself. It also gets rid of those pesky printer cables you never use.

5. "I don't like the fan cap, it tried to eat my nose."

Well, the simple option. PUT THE FANS ON YOUR DESK.

"Like this?"

58p7.jpg

Yes, Like that. Well done.

6. "It's 30 degrees outside, and with all these fans it's 30 degrees inside."
Your point?
"It's too hot."
Well, don't fear cause the ice pack is here.

lz47.jpg

And its connected to a heatsink with a fan on it. And it has a 9v battery. O.M.G.
Now you can stay ice cool while everyone else perishes in the heat.

7. "I have to hold your stupid ice pack heatsink thingy. I'M GAMING."
I hear you, and I've saved the best till last. A slave to hold your heatsink.
Naaaah, you can't build your own slave. It wouldn't be a DIY guide if you had a slave.

So, the ice water bath with fans thingy thingy thingy. Made from a few simple components and a small amount of copper tubing.

These come together to make....

This. Ice in the top, chilled water out the bottom. And the heatsink sandwich blows cold air onto you.

FREAKING GENIUS I hear you shout. Can I put blackcurrant cordial in the top and get juice out the bottom?

I know, I'm just brilliant. And yes, cordial+ice=JUICE.
Shame I broke my peltier making a pasta cooker out of a bean can. otherwise this would be uber effective :(
But, all the sadness aside. You now have all the tools to keep on top of your game this summer.

Pop back next year for some even more ridiculous ideas on how to keep cool. And, as always with DIY guides, MORE TAPE :)
