Summer Transfer Window 2021/2022

Was he really that unpopular? I thought he was your best CB?

You're already a bit of a mad side, swinging from beating teams at the top of the table to looking like a League 1 side but I really have no idea what to expect from you this season. Losing Ings is a blow and it wouldn't be a massive surprise to me if you end up in a relegation battle, equally you could end up 7th.

He was pretty unpopular a couple of seasons ago. Look back on forums and you'll find comments like 'hope he never wears a Saints shirt again', 'another one on stupid wages we'll be stuck loaning out for the rest of his contract', 'not cut out for the Premier League'.

For the last season he's been very good but prior to that plenty saw him as the weakest link in our very average defensive line up.

Edit - He got benched for most of the second half of the 19/20 season for Jack Stephens.

I think we're fully in line for an average to poor season where we should consider things a success if we're higher than 15th. We've had a pretty good transfer window, in the circumstances of having players running down contracts, but not sure it's good enough to really compete. Our mentality i think is likely to still be our biggest downfall.

I don't understand the Willock transfer from Arsenals point of view, surely he's worth a punt in the Arsenal squad?

It is just madness, just like pretty much the entire transfer saga. When was the last time Arsenal signed someone of the quality of RVP, Henry, Bergkamp? Must 10-15 years.

Saka is about the only one but he is still very young.

Varane transfer still not completed. Instead of the usual saga of getting someone even agreeing to joining, it’s now a saga around getting the damn thing confirmed and everything signed, sealed and delivered! The joys of a Utd transfer window are never ending :(

Quarantine etc hasn’t helped of course, and I read image rights reared their head too.

I have a feeling he is injured and imagine the uproar signing an injured center back. Especially if it will be our only signing apart from Sancho.

Hopefully that’s not the case, but guess it would have been a big ask for him be ready for the Leeds game either way.

Do wish we would get a defensive midfielder in to properly replace Matic and I have a horrible feeling Cavani won’t be injury-free this season…

Looks like Ben Davies has gone on season long loan to Sheff Utd. I imagine thats probably it for his Liverpool "career", fully expect him to be sold on without ever playing a game for us.

He’s got over a million in performance related addons as part of his transfer fee. At least it gets you of them.
It was always a bizarre signing imo. All down to the defender panic of last season.

Liverpool wouldn’t even entertain signing someone of his caliber otherwise. I mean, it didn’t take them long to send Kabak packing.

It wasn't that bizarre. We paid £500k for him (+ those add-ons that will never be triggered) and will receive a reported loan fee of £1m for him. That extra £500k has most likely paid his wages for the 6 months he's been with us.

He provided us with emergency cover at CB and with a lot of interest in him from Championship/SPL level clubs, we were very likely to be able to shift him on at some point for a significant profit.

Its not a move I would have made if I had been him. He was a week in , week out starter for his team, joins Liverpool. Sits there for 6 months not playing a single competitive match, then gets shuttled back down the Championship for the whole season and Sheff Utd dont even have an option to buy on him either. IMO its not the wisest career move by him, sometimes you are better off staying playing every week at your Championship side than you are not playing at all higher up. I feel it was probably a better deal for us at the time than for him.

This MBappe to Madrid and Ronaldo to PSG rumour has to be nonsense surely...

Ronaldo to PSG next season wouldn't surprise me. Doubt he will go this year. I reckon PSG will hold onto Mbappe until next year as well. Madrid could get some very good players on frees next year. Obviously their signing on fees and wages will be monstrous but they will still save a bunch.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if there isn’t a transfer fee, can’t the player ‘request’ more money via wages as well? I can see it now next year they get Pogba and Ronaldo on a bozman.

Yeah, they can basically request whatever they like as they are a free agent and the "buying" club are dealing with only them. In theory they could demand a transfer fee similar to what a club would be paid. In practice the player, their agent, family, his aunt and his dog get a bonus and he gets much larger wages than he would have got through a normal transfer.

Rumour has it that Ronaldo been offered to city now, which isn't impossible to imagine with Juve keen to get him off the books.

Bet Kane is sweating even more now
