Summer Transfer Window 22/23

I think Tielemans is class, good enough for anyone.

Would love to see Eriksen stay at Brentford. They gave him a fantastic opportunity, and in fairness he's already repaid them with his performances, but it would be great to see him give them a full season.

Tielemens has never really impressed me when i've seen him play.

Wasn't Tielemens the key playmaker and goal scorer for the FA cup final win?

I've slowly gone off Tielemans. When he was on loan at Leicester I thought he looked fantastic, last season he still looked decent enough and I'd have taken him as a squad option at Liverpool but this season he's looked a shadow of the player he showed a couple of seasons ago. It was widely reported that he wanted to leave last summer and it might have just been a hangover from not getting his move away.

On our midfield, reports linking us with Tchouameni seem to have gathered pace in the last week or so. I won't pretend to have watched a great deal of him but he appears to be the sort of player that ticks all the boxes for what we need. We tend to play with one attacking/creative 8 and then a more defensively minded 8 either side of Fabinho but with Milner's decline we've basically been left with just Henderson for that defensive role and also the only cover for Fabinho in the holding role. Tchouameni, from what I understand, appears to be somebody that can be the ball winning/defensive 8 and also another option covering Fabinho. It's just a shame we can't sign him in time for the CL final :/

oh wow, short sighted of Brentford not to have a right to extend x years based on performance. Maybe they tried and he refused? We'll never know I guess.

He's definitely been pivotal to their up-turn in form though by all accounts. Much more consistent with him there. Rather like Leicester with Ndidi and Tielemens both fit.
Yeah he only wanted 6 months when we signed him. It was either that or him not joining.

Imagine what he could have become, a legend almost the size of Gerrard but with more trophies. Now he's just another bum at Villa waiting for Gerrard to get the sack.

As said in another thread (re Bruno, but the same applies to Phil):

I've said it before, but top teams no longer play with a "true" number 10. They either adapt, like de Bruyne, or they end up benched or moving to a "smaller" side like Coutinho, Isco, James, Ozil etc. In the same way, genuine defensive midfielders - the classic Makeleles - don't exist any more. The best ones - Fabinho, Rodri, Kante for example - are all capable of much more than breaking up play.

Coutinho very rarely played as a 10 when he was with us. More often than not he played off the left of a front 3 or in a deeper midfield role and his performances as a midfielder were off the charts.

Already annoyed at the Rhetoric surrounding Coutinhos signing. As though he's failed because he's ended up at a club like Villa. These same people then go on to complain that the PL is a 4 club league...

He's gone from Liverpool to Barca onto Bayern to Villa.

He went to Barca for 140 million and he isnt ripping up trees at Villa. Even a Villa podcast i listened to said if it wasnt Liverpool he wouldnt have started and Buendia would have.

Failed might be too strong but hardly been a success where he's gone.
