Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Casemiro deal moving in the right direction, reports in Spain saying it's likely too...

Of course his age isn't ideal, although he should have another 2-3 seasons if he's injury free.

That aside though, he's one of the best defensive midfielders around and that's what we've been crying out for. He should improve the defence and generally knit the team together a lot better.

He's also used to playing with Fred for Brazil, which is a bonus.

Even if we do somehow sign him, we still need more.

Looks like Antony isn’t happening according to Ornstein
80 million bid rejected. What on earth is going on lmao. Now PSV know they bid that for him they'll want similar for Gakpo.

They seem to have come into this window with a De Jong at all costs mentality. What an absolute mess.

We need a striker. He's free. He played 5 times for Italy in 2022.

Can he be worse than rashford? If CR7 leaves... what are our options?

Does he want to come to England? Doesnt look like it if he's waiting on Roma. Italian players rarely leave Italy and if they do they are rarely a success.

Just because a lads out of contract it isnt a given that he will join United.

I like him, he's a good dm but he needs lads in front of him like he has at Madrid. Silly money on wages though.

The only saving grace here is he doesn't want to to leave.

Otherwise that's another 70m lost on a player we might get just 1 or 2 decent seasons out of. IF that.

Earning 18m a season.

We are jokers.

The only 2 I can really remember being a success were Zola and Di Canio, and maybe Ravanelli

Reports have come out saying the wages aren't that high and he's interested in the project and the league (maybe he's clinically insane).

But either way, we've thrown away copious amounts of money on far worse players. I suppose he'll be the 'big' signing to replace Pogba and his wages, which is fine by me.

What project lmao. By the time United are back in a position to win the big trophies he'll be retired.

He's chasing the coin.

I have no issue with this by the way, loads do it but i don't buy the project line.

Well, the Ten Hag project I assume (not off to a great start admittedly).

I agree and it doesn't bother me either, just looked like some people had come out denying it's purely financial...

Of course it would be financial. If you was after success, why on earth would you leave the European and La liga champions for Man Utd?

You’d have to be a sandwich short of a picnic

If we'd gone after him at the start of the summer I'd be more into Casemiro but it feels like a panic buy, probably just been offered to us by his agent. Is it what ETH wants? Seems unlikely given he wanted FDJ and they're nothing alike. He's obviously a great player but I can't help but feel it might be another square peg, round hole.

I'm more worried hes coming for the money and will just be happy to coast here.

Ornstein reporting Casemiro deal is progressing quickly

Of course Real Madrid aren't stupid they can sell a 30 year old player for 68m.

Why weren't clubs offering even half that for Mata or Matic over the last couple of years? Because we are the most brain dead club on the transfer market and whats worse is we have money to spend.

Apart from cr7/lewa which other 30 year old players have attracted transfer fees over 50m? Can anyone name some?

All the sad ones I found seemed to implicate Barca and most of them ended terribly.

Pjanic 60m to Barca and subsequently got loaned out..

Naingollan got loaned out...

The age and higher costs do increase the risk, but Casemiro is a proven player at the highest level. It’s also a bit unfair to effectively retire him at 30. Time will tell if it’s a good move…

What annoys me is the quite obvious panic buying. 2 bad results after a poor transfer window and we’re suddenly throwing around £200m like it’s nothing.

De Jong seemed to be ETH’s primary target, deemed essential for his system. There must have been indications he’d join.
