Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Yeah why didn't we just sign those two! Who were wanted by Real Madrid! I wonder why! I can't think of a single reason!

No you don't understand.

They bought camavinga while they still had casemiro and gave him a years experience.

And then bought Tchouameni before selling Casemiro.

In our situation - we didnt sign a matic replacement while he was at the club. We didn't sign someone young and give them a year to bed in while Matic was running down his contract.

Real did. Its like real Madrid have more strategy than us. The club known for blowing money left right and center. Sure the Hazard deal wasn't great. But you can't deny their strategy of buying good young players age 19-22 and giving them time to play for the club.

Edit NOT like Sancho who somehow is a top earner and cost 80m yet has output close to Elanga and less than (sadly scum) greenwood.

Ww have learnt nothing from buying Matic, Pogba, et al.

I believe the point of the article is that instead of signing a cdm approaching his prime you are instead splashing 60 odd million on a cdm at the end of his, there's no forward planning.

And the winner is Real Madrid who get a younger forward lookimg squad.

They traded up.

We supped up the cost of it.

The article literally asks why we didn't sign Tchouameni and Camavinga, as if we should somehow have become a more attractive destination than Real ******** Madrid. It offers no alternatives that we should have actually gone for. It's a standard low effort bash piece that you often see from the likes of MEN.

We courted camavinga for a long time but didn't push it.

But no my real take away from the article is that we have no plan. Real Madrids plan is to sell old players AFTER buying their replacements so they aren't desperate. And give their players time to bed in while learning from those good players.

Do you know why we didn't push it? It's because he wanted to go to Real Madrid.

We’re a club that’s been in a state of flux for a number of years and we’re still expected to get the best players in the world on the cheap and in their prime at the first time of asking, every time. Right. Got it.

Yes and I accept that if Real Madrid or Barca compete with us for a player 90% chance we won't get the player.

That doesn't mean there aren't or weren't other players out there we could have bought before we lost 3 or 4 midfielders this summer. Or brought them in last season.

And stop offering players a 3x wage rise to join us.

While you’re spot on with how Real have gone about things for their future etc, no one could predict how badly the Sancho deal would have turned out, ignoring wages every team that would have gone for him would have paid close to 80m I’d of guessed.

And with regards to people saying Casemiro is too old for the money, I imagine most PL clubs would have loved to have had a shot at buying Lewandowski tbh.

Players will always get a big wage rise when joining us. Our revenue is 2-3x the revenue of the clubs we're purchasing from (in the case of Martinez and Malacia) and in the case of someone like Casemiro that's what we need to offer to attract the best right now.

I mean we aren't purchasing Lisandro from Bethnal Green here, from Ajax the biggest club in Dutch football. The man utd of the Ere division.

If we have to offer someone 60k-90k pay increase to move to us then clearly they are not sufficiently motivated to join us to begin with.

And that's why clubs have wage structures and why they don't get stuck either players they can't sell if they don't work out.

Juventus bought Zakaria last season. Similar profile to Lisandro, came from smaller league etc

Zakaria is on 74k euro.
Weston Mckennie from shalke04 61k euro

Yes Chiesa got a big pay rise but he's on 150k a week, not 400k like Sancho...

Sancho was already on a higher wage than that at a bigger club, are you suggesting we offered him a paycut? I never said Ajax weren't a big club, I said their revenue is a fraction of ours, of course they pay players less.

Sure we can sit around for all these top wonderkid players that are happy to move here for a low wage...

As Robbo said, wage is the least of our problems. The problem is our transfer strategy is haphazard and our scouting and target identification leads us to buying the wrong players.

With these performances I would say yes he probably does need a pay cut.

Thing is, I think of the clubs money in the same way I would look aftermarket own.

Would I just throw it all away for nothing on players I know will linger about on 18m a year and have no future value at all while only being effective for maybe 1 or 2 seasons?

No.

Do I think Casemiro is super motivated or will just be frustrated and shake his head like cr7 does every time we concede a goal?
