Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Crazy money on players this summer and as others have mentioned its world class fees for bang average players.

I wouldn’t say he’s a bang average player, but there’s certainly no guarantee he’ll be a roaring success. He’ll need to raise his game a couple of levels.

How is he anything but bang average when he isnt tearing up the league he's in... Which is below average?

Eric Bailey - Marseille will cover the full amount of the 28-year-old's wages during the arrangement and there is a €6million obligation for them to buy him next summer subject to a certain number of appearances being made as well as the club qualifying for the Champions League.

6m euro? He cost us nearly 30m.

What is this, why are we so terrible at transfer business? You can't even buy half decent championship players for 6m.

£80m for Antony is crazy money. I would expect to pay £40-50m max. Strange buy when I would consider CM and RB far more important positions to strengthen as well. This is when you perhaps should be telling the manager no. Even if he is a good player, thats too much of a gamble when there are other more pressing positions in the squad.

I agree and disagree.

Yes anything over 50m is stupid. Hence why no other clubs across the world are competing with us for him.

Now the price is becuase Ajax are already rich enough this year because they already ripped us off on the Lisandro deal.

A smart man would have bought Antony first for less and then offered for Martinez knowing there is no way they could ask 80m for him.

RB yes maybe. But look at it this way, we aren't trying to win the CL this year (we aren't in it] and Dalot as the attacking one and Bissaka as the defensive one should be good enough to beat Brentford on any given Saturday afternoon.

So rotate the two, get Bissakas value up and identify a RB target for next summer andsimply don't get reemed on the deal next year.

CM yes you could sell any 2 of Fred or Scotty, and but a half decent player. But find one with a year left on their contract or who wants to leave.

It's the wages we pay these average players. They are unsellable whilst in contract as
1) they arent good enough for a top club
2) no-one else can pay the stupid wages
Better to see out your contract, moan about not playing than take a cut and when you can move for free at the end of the deal.

Look at how much Newcastle are looking to pay for a player that is a 1 in 3 striker and how much Everton is wanting for Gordon.

Then you look at how much Haaland and Jesus have cost and you laugh.

I would bet most on here haven't seen more than 5 games of Antony (if that, and I include myself) so I'm going to trust ETH given he knows more than us. The price is high but that is purely down to the Glazers in the end, doing business at the end of the window is always going to be expensive.

Ajax didn't want ETH poaching more than one player, certainly not this late in the window - so they are driving a particularly hard bargain. They don't have to sell but a club like Ajax won't ultimately turn that sort of money down. He would have been cheaper if we'd acted earlier I'm sure. Thank the Glazers for that.

While his stats aren't amazing, in terms of ability he looks absolutely rapid and with Neymar type skills, and he's Brazilian - that's always going to cost a premium. He's also familiar with ETH's system and what he wants, we need players who are going to give 110% and that seems to be the case. I've seen him play a few times and watched the videos as usual, but as Shami says above, ETH knows best.

He's only 22 with room for improvement. £50m or £80m, it doesn't matter if he works out - and it's equally bad if he fails. Let's hope not.

Your posts quite literally depress me. It's an endless circle of misery.

What premium will we get for Fred? He's Brazilian. Must be worth loads now.

And Andrea's Perriera? We were lucky to scrape 10m.

BTW I've watched Antony he looks completely 1 footed like Giggs was. And will get crunched every game in the EPL.

Neymar was scoring 40 goals a season in brasil. Antony not so much..

Obi Wan Bissaka has that English tax on him yet we might sell him for 10m?

Neymar:

This is why he cost 50m

When Antony has stats like this sure, buy him for 80m
