Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Arthur is not good enough for Liverpool. Juventus have been trying to offload him to us for two years for Gabriel and Aubameyang.

We just point blank rejected him. If he’s not good enough for us, then he’s not good enough for Liverpool

I suspect its more of a token gesture thing, a "look we got a midfielder" , frankly I would rather we went for Tielemans, I honestly think he could do a job for us, I certainly think he would win us more points than Henderson or Milner at least, and he is comparatively cheap. Surprised its not something we've looked at, unless we did look at it and dismissed it for some reason.

I'd much prefer a player buy than a player loan. Its not like we are strapped for cash. Though as I say, probably too late to engineer a buy now, if only we'd made more effort to sign a midfielder throughout the window.
Like Tombstone I'd rather we buy a midfielder. We have too many injury prone ones!
I want to cry! You'd rather we buy a midfielder that we don't want to cure a short term problem?? Because that's the alternative. Klopp has never been more open about transfers as he was regarding our hunt for a midfielder in his press-conference on Tuesday. He said we tried to buy a midfielder and he said there are other midfielders that we want that are unavailable.

Instead of paying out £xm and giving out a 5 year contract on a player that you don't want, surely it makes more sense to take somebody on a short term deal and then look to sign a player you do want in January or next summer?

Like you said in the other thread in regard of feigning injury, theres no point in that conversation because we are just going round in circles, we've already covered many times the differing opinions between signing people/waiting to get Mr Right/how there are only 2 midfielders in the world of football that we want etc. Not much point in rehashing oft covered subjects

I've never said there are only two players, you just seem intent on the club signing somebody they don't want. I find it mad but this is a different point. Why is signing somebody the club doesn't want on a permanent transfer better than signing them on loan? It's quite clear they don't want Tielemans and seemingly no top side does.
Arthur as in the always injured Arthur? Wouldn't be surprised if he's out at the moment :o
Supposedly he is :D

Just jealous you didn't sign Antony.

Short term deal that if is to belived who is injured! So we're getting a player in who is injured so it fixes nothing at all

I'd rather take a gamble on luiz from villa or telemans.

Contracts also don't have to be 5 years. We have players who are constantly injured, keita and ox just to name two, Thiago is word class but picks up niggles on a regular basis.

Nunes who wolves got would have been a good buy too

There's a simple reason we dont want Tielemans and that's because he doesn't even do the off the ball basics we expect of our midfielders. Its a circular argument though, .the usual think we should be signing any old tom, dick or harry without even looking at if they would fit into how we play, its just 'oh, "xyz" is available, why haven't we signed him when we want a midfielder? fsg bad'.

I agree, signing someone the club doesnt want on a permanent transfer is not better than signing someone on loan. The point I make is that I am astonished that there is literally nobody in the entire world of football that we want and results in us having to get a loan instead. I find it hard to accept that on the whole planet, there isnt a midfielder that we would want, that we could have gotten IF we had so wanted. My general point is that I dont believe that we didnt sign a midfielder because we had no way to get one that we would want, I 100% believe that we chose, for financial reasons most likely, to not sign someone we would have wanted. I even feel that Klopp , reading between the lines, alluded to such in his interviews.

Contracts don't have to be 5 years but why has nobody touched Teilemans? I'd guess the reason why is because he/his agent has seen this as his one big chance to get a massive contract. But this is besides the point, who you and me think we should sign isn't relevant, unless you're a scout for Liverpool of course.

Whether it's because the club don't think they're good enough, not suited to how we play (another issue I see with Teilemans) or because of the financials around the deal, the club do not want those players so how does it help us signing them? If you're going to sign somebody the club don't really want, just as a short term fix then doing so with a loan deal makes 1000x more sense than a permanent deal.

Probably does more on the ball than most of our midfielders do though :p

And there in lies the problem. You should read the actual lines rather than between the lines re Klopp's comments too. In the embargoed section of his pre-match press conference he opened up about our search for a midfielder. He said that we tried to sign a midfielder (Tchouameni by all accounts) and there are other players we are interested in that simply aren't available. He then went on to discuss the possibility of signing somebody the club aren't fully decided on and most importantly, he pointed out the consequences of doing so. If we signed Teilemans, for example, for £25m and gave him the fat contract he no doubt wants, that is going to make signing a genuine top class target next summer far harder and this is why the club don't like these sorts of deals.
