Summer Transfer Window 22/23

I’m so annoyed, as usual, with Leeds. Leaving everything to the last minute with no plan B. We will get spanked at the weekend and it’s going to be another long season.

Arrrrrgh

Well I dont know...got them more 3pt matches than they would have gotten without him I guess
Signs, sores goals, team picks up their lowest point total in ages as they have to change everything about how they play, but sure he scored goals so great signing yeah?

I honestly dont think we can attribute Man Utd getting their lowest point total in ages down singularly to Ronaldo. Utds problems are not that shallow.

This is the key sentence. I imagine that who the club would want and who Klopp would want are not necessarily 100% in alignment on each potential target.
Indeed, think he said he'd like to take more risks occasionally but understands how it is, been like that ever since he stepped through the door. You could argue spunking 85m on Darwin is a massive risk tho :p

Potentially but one thing Klopp has always said is that he has the first and last word regarding any deal we do.

As I said when we discussed our midfield before, our approach isn't perfect and there have been times where we've left ourselves short but in this case I think the compromise makes perfect sense. I won't pretend to know much about Arthur but you'd hope that having played for Barca and Juve for years, plus picking up 20 caps for Brazil that he's fairly competent and will do a job for us this season without blocking a potential deal for a top class midfielder next summer. I'd take that rather than settling for Teilemans for 5 years anyway.

And one point, although I'm sure we really like him, I think everybody is getting ahead of themselves re Bellingham. The one midfielder I think Liverpool really would like is Barella at Inter.

Spunking 85m on anyone is a massive risk really but then the prices of footballers has gotten way out of hand generally :D

re: Bellingham, I still dont think we are going to actually get him. Cant point exactly to why but I really do get the feeling that we're going to have egg on our faces over the Bellingham "chase"

The Bellingham talk needs to be shelved, I don't think for a second he will come to us.

He will want high wages and we don't pay that for new players from day 1 I suspect he would want anyway from 200k to 300k starting, that's not us that's utd,Chelsea or City wages.

Whilst we may pay that eventually I don't think we have given any player that on day one

Well as I said, I think a lot of people are putting 2 and 2 together and assuming we're going all out for just him. The fact that our one big midfield target this summer was Tchouameni, a completely different player to Bellingham, makes me question that.

Thing is, even "just" Bellingham wont be enough next summer anyway, whichever way you look at it, with a rapidly fading Henderson and a 37 year old Milner, we're probably realistically going to need 2 midfielders next summer anyway. So at best it would be Bellingham + one other, but imo its going to be 2 as I dont think Bellingham will happen

Italian midfielders are crap in the PL :(:p
The issue with Italian players moving to the PL has been the tempo of the game. That wouldn't be an issue for Barella and like Nunez when we played Benfica, Klopp was gushing over Barella before our tie vs Inter despite the fact he was suspended for it.

Yes, we're very likely to sign 2 midfielders. As I said, it's not a case of just Bellingham, shown by the fact that we tried to sign a completely different profile of player this summer too. We're going to go for a more defensively minded box to box player as a long term replacement for Hendo (who will become our Milner) and we'll go for a more attacking midfielder to replace Keita/Ox. That's my guess anyway although the emergence of Carvalho and where he fits in the side may alter the 2nd midfielder.

We've been tenuously linked with barella every summer window for the past 3 or so years. Maybe it'll happen eventually..
