Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Will be interesting to see if we go in for a new forward or whether we'll stick with Jota, Diaz and Salah as the main front three. Would like us to go in hard for Bowen though I did read several links in recent months with Gnabry.

As I've said before, it's not a surprise and I'd imagine it was a two way decision. Mane's form picked up when he was moved centrally because it was less physically demanding than playing on the right but who knows how long that would have continued moving forwards. Playing in attack for us is a young man's job and there was no chance that we were going to give out big contracts for all our forwards. Salah is the priority, and I wouldn't be shocked if even his new deal doesn't happen, meaning Mane was never getting that final big pay day with us. He was faced with a choice of a shorter contract with us or a new challenge and the way we are run, I can't imagine a new challenge fazed us.

Whether it's Mane and Salah or Kane at Spurs, these players are at an age where they're going to need replacing sometime in the next few years and it's far easier to replace them by receiving a fee for them than getting that extra year and them leaving on a free or a much reduced fee.

I've always questioned the logic of us signing an out and out centre forward in the past but I wonder if that is that is how we replace Mane. Even if he signs a new deal Salah won't be the same influence on the side in 1-2 years and with Firmino already playing a lesser role, maybe we end up with a slight tweak to hoq the front line plays.
Last night was crying out for an out and out striker someone that could find the net with doing very little else . In fact a few games i thought that some like a fowler etc Though there isn't a lot around and i don't see us spending huge amounts !
This Darwin Nunez being spoken about but i don't know a lot about him and utd are after him too

Whilst Nunez undoubtedly has talent, I dont like his attitude. Would rather we went for someone else than him

I don't buy into your first point. Teams play different ways and we have excelled by not playing with a typical centre forward. Who knows what would have happened but this argument is far too simplistic - would we have created the chances we did had we had a number 9 on the pitch instead of x?

I was simply speculating on what we might do, not because what we have done was wrong but because replicating it moving forwards might not be possible. Salah, Mane and Firmino replacements are not readily available and maybe we will have to tweak how we play in order to get the same output we've got from them. We've already started that process to be fair with Firmino being less of a fixture in the side and Mane's change of position. Maybe a Nunez type CF is the next stage of the process. Mane played more like a number 9 than Firmno did anyway.

Most European teams should be after him, Chelsea were rumoured. I have no idea why he'd want to go back to PSG but then if they are offloading Neymar, Di Maria gone maybe they'd consider it.

Tottenham apparently signing Perisic. Weird one IMO. Hes 33 and usually plays on the left I thought.

Good player and a shame he didn't come to the PL a few years ago but not sure about that one.

Worked with Conte before though and fits the profile of a "results now" signing for Conte.

I agree it’s an odd one too. coming from the much slower Serie A to the prem at 33 could be too much for him.

Ronaldo did it, but he’s done it before in the prem, so knew what to expect. Can’t see it working tbh.

Can't see him replacing any of their starting 3 and is he much better than the likes of Moura as an alternative?

I’m mostly in agreement. Our forward players are great and I will be sorry to see Mané leave but all things come to an end. An actual striker, a proper goal poacher, fox in the box would be superb, someone to always be on the end of Robbo’s and Trent’s crosses would be amazing and I’d love to see it, but it’s getting the right sort. Many strikers are selfish or won’t track back, that’s not the kind of player we want or need.

I don't think it's as simple as finding a centre forward that will work hard, it's about finding a combination of forwards that suit each other. That's what we had with Salah, Mane and Firmino but with Mane possibly leaving, Firmino playing fewer and fewer games and Salah's game likely to evolve as he gets older, the way our attack works may have to change too. It will be interesting to see what will happen but the Liverpool press pack seemed to have been briefed this morning that it will take much more than 30m euros for us to sell and we'd want a replacement lined up before allowing a sale.

I actually think the Mane/Salah/Firmino situations are a good thing, its going to push us into a different frontline, which plays in a different way, maybe even going back to a true no.9 type of central attacker. Something I've taken from this season is that in some ways other teams, particularly good teams, have worked out how we play and how to break that. I think we could do with having an unknown element to our play next season, develop a new Liverpool way of playing. Something that opponents will not be expecting and I think this enforced change of our front line is a good opportunity to bring that about

Having been watching a few clips from two or three years ago we play very differently now. Back then we were explosive on the break, often scoring within 20 seconds of an opposition goal attempt. We play an awful lot slower now compared to then, not really sure why tbh. Look at Real’s goal compared to the shots on target we had. Reals goal was the kind of goal we used to score a few years ago. Now we seem to either be more patient, or less clinical, I’m unsure which. A change in style back to quick counters wouldn’t go amiss I feel, many teams seem to have us worked out Now.

You can't play like that once teams have realised. Your fans won't put up with it and the opposition will sit deep as they do now and make that style of football very hard. The best teams play on the front foot but when you dominate games the hardest thing becomes breaking down dug in teams.

I expect he'll play left wingback. Powerful, direct, hard-working, good delivery, scores a share of goals. Upgrade on Reguilon and Sessegnon.
