Summer Transfer Window 22/23

He might be interested but if hes itching for a move he doesnt say what he's saying. He stays quiet. He's clearly happy where he is and isnt desperate for the move so move on.

He’s certainly not itching for a move, we’re trying to capitalise on Barcelona’s financial situation to get a player Ten Hag really wants.

From what Saliba said i thought it was. He can't be worse as backup that Holding so looks like a no brainer to me.
I think the point is there's no way he wants to be a backup. The only way he'll be happy at Arsenal next season is if he's a regular starter. He's also got Guendouzi in his ear all the time saying he needs to stay at Marseilles.

I read rumours of Atalanta taking Tavares on loan. He's not good enough but I'm not really a fan of this policy where we buy players, they are a bit naff, then we loan them out for years rather than just selling them.

Torreira is a good example, his stock was moderately high a couple of years back, personally I want him in the team but if Arteta doesn't fancy him enough to even have as a squad player, why not cash in?

Oh and I get that but the kid has publicly said he is happy where he is so why bother? Barcelona's finances are irrelevant if the player doesn't want out...

You'll only end up paying over the odds for a player who's not bothered about moving clubs.

Doesn't matter if the player isn't bothered about moving if the club wants to sell him. I don't care if we're not his 'dream club' as long as he's professional. Not every player is Robbie Keane where every move is his dream club.

Will be pretty annoyed if we don't get a other midfield option in, reports are that we are finished with purchases

With Mane and another couple of smaller sales we are going to finish with yet another very low net spend

although the money being spent on 'back ups' is way more than I thought.

I wouldn't frame Martinez as a back-up. As you mention, one of the main problems we have had is the significant drop-off between first team players and the reserves. Martinez is a very good player; quick, aggressive, technically very proficient. He would ensure there is little to no deficiency in two defensive positions. A starting-quality player makes more sense to me than someone who would be a defined back-up (e.g. Hickey).

I don't think he impacts Saliba to any great degree. Arteta prefers balance and we don't have another natural left-footed centreback, with Mari heading out of the door. Going back to tactical and positional versatility, Martinez offers an option at LCB in a 2, wide LCB in a 3, LB and also DM. Competing on four fronts, there will be plenty of games to go around. With concerns over Tomiyasu's durability, I wouldn't even be surprised to see Ben White naturally become the preferred replacement on the right, which would become possible if Saliba performs.

We've seen a gradual evolution from our fullbacks offering width > playing tucked-in and ballplaying from the back. More aligned to Man City, where the wide midfielders/attackers offer the width. That isn't possible when Cedric and particularly Tavares start. It is with White/Martinez.

I really hope the 100k a week rumour for Nketiah is just that. He's not worth half that. Arsenal posted that they are just getting started as part of his announcement so hopefully some good news to come.

I think/hope there might be more movement this week as ETH is supposed to be wanting some players back for the 27th, isn’t he? Perhaps a couple will get finalised this coming week and arrive soon after that date.

Trying to be optimistic… :cry::eek:

Interested to see how much Arsenal are paying Nketiah. Contract literally just about to expire. £100k wouldn't surprise me.

Given he’s probably on 1/3 of that, maybe even £20k or less at the moment as a regular first team player and given his performance at the end of last season his agent is likely looking for a 3-4x increase as a minimum. If Arteta doesn’t get Jesus then he will play an even bigger part next season.

Klopp has shown many times he won’t just buy for the sake of it, he’s always been happy to wait for the player they want even if they’re not currently available. I’d imagine he wants Bellingham but I’d imagine Dortmund are unwilling and certainly don’t need to sell after City bought Haaland.

If we have to rely on him as our main striker we are screwed. He's not good enough and 100k is a joke.

Next summer if all stays the same the current lads will be a year older Keita and Ox will be gone so we will need 2 cms and a replacement for Salah. That's a lot in one window. We should be looking at bringing a CM and I imagine we are we are just waiting on some outgoings first.

Naby will be getting a new contract

Still kind of expecting Salah to sign. As C Kent says I’m expecting Nabylad to be offered and sign a new contract. We have Jones, Elliott and Carvalho to improve this season as well. Trust in Klopp and his team.
