Summer Transfer Window 22/23

It's all speculation of course but Eriksen offers us a number of options. First we desperately need a backup for Fernandes so we don't have to play him every single game. The other thing is Eriksen has played a number of roles, not just 10. He's played in a double pivot, 3 man midfield along with being a wide midfielder (something that Ten Hag liked to do with Ziyech)

Eriksen on a 2 year contract makes a lot of sense. As Shami says, hes versatile and we have flogged Fernandes far too much since he arrived.

We obviously would still need probably 2 other midfield additions (hopefully de Jong and a proper DM) but hes available on a free and we don't have all the money in the world so a cheap and quality signing like that would be good. Push McTominay to the fringes and give Fred some stiff competition along with providing backup to a few other positions. We have lost Matic, Pogba and Lingard this summer. We need probably 5 signing at least so this would make sense on many levels.

He will probably go back to Spurs though for CL football.

I thought he would definitely go back to Spurs, too many positives. He wants to stay in London where his family is settled, former manager, CL football, former club etc. Recent news seems to suggest that he's leaning away from Spurs though

So far, our targets seem to be:

De Jong - #1 priority, sounds more likely to happen than not, but who knows.

Eriksen - versatile, as mentioned above.

Antony - no massively solid links but Ten Hag is a fan and Ajax don't seem to be against him leaving. Exciting winger.

One of Martinez/Timber - Ajax defenders.

I think we're on the right track with these, there are likely other targets too.

Still not convinced Eriksen is needed, especially over other positions. You'll have to educate me, how different is he to VdB (other than playing as a winger)? Is the latter on his way out?

We seem to have a lot of weak but potentially skillful midifedlers, no strength, no defensive minded players who can be relied upon to mop up? Fred? McSauce? Not good enough. Then again, maybe they are good enough for current United standards?

Fábio Viera confirmed by the Arsenal store, glad to know where our priorities are! :D

Twitter announcement done now too

Like what i hear about him, good cover/switch for odegaard it seems

Analysis of new Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira by Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda:

"We are talking about a player who plays on the right wing and he uses his game to move from the wing to the middle. But he can easily play in other places like the left wing and as an offensive midfielder, a No 10, as he is not that fast. But he has a lot of flexibility with the ball and very good positioning without the ball as well.

"Many people in England are maybe asking why Arsenal are paying that money for a player who was not always in the Porto XI, but if you look at the numbers, they do not lie - he played 39 games for Porto last season, with seven goals and 16 assists.

"If you look at the goals he scored, they were all in important matches. He scored against Sporting, the champions from the previous season, and against Benfica, Porto's other great rival. And the time he was on the pitch, he was making great performances, including in the Champions League too."
