Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Do you honestly believe that Depay would be a massive upgrade over Lingard? People like to laugh a lot and he is a bit of a noob but he was a talented player. He was one of the better players in the England Squad during 17/18 and also during Jose's 81 point season finishing second. He also won us the FA cup with an absolute cracker. Was always a big game player.

Depay got his move to Barcelona due to Koeman links not because they really wanted him. He was also terrible for us. He has had one decent season. Look at his Dutch goals outside 21 and it is pretty terrible. He has also come at a time into the Dutch squad where they have no real strikers.

Are you seriously saying Lingard is better then Depay?

lol

Yes, Lingard was/is spectacularly average at best, at least Depay has continually improved season on season since leaving you.

Lingards best ever season for you was 17/18 and he finished with 8 goals and 5 assists from 33 games, for a comparison Lallana's best season (16/17 where we finished 4th) for us was 8 goals and 7 assists from 31 games. That's his level.. a poor mans Adam Lallana.

I wasn't saying he is better but Depay is not a massive upgrade on what Lingard could have offered as squad player to warrant the wages, signing fee that he would command. Depay scored 8 open goals in la liga plus 4 pens last season. Lingard did a lot better in his loan spell at Westham.

Why are we trying to trigger CR7s contract extension and then loan him out?

When he comes back he could be injured or leggy etc and if we are in the CL he will be back on 500k a week.

Surely the smart move is to sell him to Atletico for 15m as rumoured and move on?

Or a swap deal for Griezman.

Depay to Utd can't be a serious rumour. He flopped at Utd once, hardly set the world alight since moving on, suffered a major ACL injury, signed a fat contract at Barca and missed 30% of the season with various injuries.

As a bastion of positivity when it comes to the current MUFC... I have to ask... with the first match of the EPL fast approaching on August 7th, what happens if we don't get FDJ? Nothing? One has to assume this, given that nothing else has happened so far. Or will it be a panic buy at the last minute? Not sure how many times I've asked this, is there nobody better than Fred or McSauce out there? Will Garner be the answer?

I'd be interested in what the more postiive people on here think about MUFC's dealing this summer, assuming FDJ doesn't arrive.

I would hope it is nothing if we do not get what we want. Id rather a season of getting what we have to work right than buying players we do not need.

Our squad is more than strong enough to challenge for top 4. The players have talent. I am hoping that ETH will get them functioning. Our Pre-Season has been very strong as well.

ETH seems to be set on only getting the right players so won't just buy a player for the sake of it, kind of how Klopp has been. Not sure I agree with it but what can you do. I still think we'll sign FDJ but it'll go right down to the end, not much we can do about it given it's completely out of our hands for once.

Weren't you saying that one way or another the saga was going to be wrapped up 10 days ago and you had other targets if the deal didn't happen?

I said that is what a journalist claimed. This may shock you but I personally don't have access to the club. Since then reports have come out that although the club has other options ETH isn't keen on them.

no but you are quite often dismissive shall we say, of people posting less than stellar twitter rumors and then took what talksport said as gospel, kinda amusing.

I did no such thing, I said they'd historically been poor but had a good record this summer. Stop making **** up to try and make yourself look smart.

I think we can all agree that talksport sources are 14 year olds on twitter.

Getting back to the original point, Utd not just signing anybody just because they miss out on their preferred target would be the best thing they can do. I know many supporters (myself included at times) want instant results and have this believe that something is better than nothing but signing the wrong players is often worse than signing nobody at all. If Utd sing the wrong player then they're lumbered with them because no club that wants a failed Utd player can afford to pay said players wages and not being able to move that player on will impact Utd's ability to sign the right player for years to come.

Id normally agree as its exactly what we have done in the past, most notably VVD, but he wanted to come to us so it was only a matter of time. FDJ isn't exactly itching to go to United.

Every time someone says this I ask where they've got this from and nobody ever responds. Look how quickly we moved on from Timber earlier this summer when he decided he wanted to stay to try and secure a world cup spot. Do you really think we'd still be pursuing him if FDJ hadn't made it clear he was interested?
