I'm torn on Caicedo and that fee.
Good DMs are very few and far between hence the fee paid for him and Rice. Lavia is nowhere near Caicedo's level now, but in 5 years I expect they'll be at a similar standard. Therefore we've essentially paid £60m for the period of time it would have taken Lavia to get up to a level.
I don't have a huge issue with us spending that on Caicedo rather than Bellingham. The circumstances were different when Bellingham moved. Plus, despite his talent Bellingham is very much not a 6 and that's the position in which there is huge scarcity and therefore higher prices in the market. Alexis for £30m was a better buy for that role than Bellingham at 100 to me.
On the whole, the business this summer has been very good. We've basically got rid of 5 (I think) aging midfielders, and bought what was the best midfield in the league last season (aside from City) plus Szoboszlai for a fairly reasonable net spend. The fee for Caicedo worries me, but if that midfield project as a whole comes off then we've played it perfectly.
