Summer Transfer Window 23/24

I know most of us assumed Rice would be leaving anyway but it's a bit **** of the chairman this morning to announce he's played his last game for the club.

The Scottish boy that’s heading to Liverpool. Decent buy. Nothing out of the ordinary. Does everything at a good to decent standard.

I do think think his Line breaking passing is extremely high? Could be tasty for Liverpool.

i like Jock Mcalistar. Very tidy player. Would improve most sides in the premier league, can’t see how he improves Liverpool great
y though.

I think Rice is a decent player but if he goes for £100m then I've got to be worth at least £1m.
Theres only one player better than him at what he does in the prem and thats rodri no one else is even close to rice

If maguire/sancho/pepe/antony are 70 mill plus players then rice is worth 100 mill everyday of the week and twice on a sunday

I don't agree but even if you think that, it doesn't make him a £100m player.

We've become so blasé about transfer fees that everybody is worth at least £50m if they've had 1 good game. Only a handful of players have ever been sold for that sort of fee and I can't think of one that's close to being as limited technically and proven as little as Rice.

Decent? He’s generational imo. Like the kid at school who took all the free kicks and throw ins.
Im definitely no expert but I want to stick my neck out and say this lad has it all. I’ve not seen him have a bad game.
Hes exceptional imo, I think he does everything well.

His stats show he’s pretty special only have to look at stats for play hes broken up etc and he can carry the ball.

He reads play very well he’s definately a very intelligent player, if he does come arsenal can see arteta turning him into more of a boxxto box midfielder and adding goals to his game he will definately get more freedom with partey doing the role he did at west ham

I've just noticed your edit. Pointing to terrible deals and saying he must be worth x is a bit silly. You could do the opposite and compare him with Arsenal signing Vieira for £3m odd - even adjusting for football inflation I'm guessing that won't be much more than £20m. If Vieira was £20m odd then Rice can't be more than £10m, right?

I've had this debate in this thread once already and I'm not saying he's a bad player and I've said before that a lot of his qualities are things Liverpool have lacked last season but they're not things I've not seen in loads of players. He's a very good player but nobody is convincing me that there aren't similar players around Europe for half that. Fernandez to Chelsea for £100m was mad but at least with Fernandez he has qualities that you won't find in many players.

If he ends up joining Utd I wonder if your still be calling him special. I’d wait to see how he fits before saddling him with that kind of burden.

Rice is number one midfielder in europes top 5 leagues for ball recoveries

Hes also top 20 in Europes top 5 leagues for entries into the final third

You may of watched him and think “hes decent” but across a season he’s right up there and as for fernandez he’s way better

He can't really do the offensive stuff. He's not Pablo Aimer. But he is Claude Makelele. I agree though, he's top quality. If CB's go for 75/80 million, no reason a midfield destroyer can't go for the same money.

I really really hope we get him i think hes the best cm going for the prem right now and i will be devastated if he goes utd

He’s a leader, puts a shift in every game and seems a proper down to earth lad that wont upset any dressing room

I'll take your word for those stats but it's far easier to recover the ball playing at West Ham than playing for a side that has the ball 75% of the time.

He’s recovering the ball like you say because of the team around him. He still then carries it into the final third put him into a team where he isnt required to recover the ball all the time and his offensive stats are going to go up

Can see him doing the xhaka role at arsenal. Partey is the workhorse

Stats from here btw https://www.playmakerstats.com/news...s mentioned above, Rice is,entries, too (291).

An important point regarding all these different statistics people throw around nowadays.

Time and time again players have moved to teams who play a different way and their stats in certain areas drop off a cliff.
