I believe Szoboszlai been mostly deployed wide but he can play anywhere.

I feel indifferent towards Maddison in the modern game. He's very much an old school 10 in my eyes, and most sides don't play with one. The best AMs (de Bruyne, Odegaard, both Bernardo and David Silva, etc) are good enough to play deeper and work back in addition to sitting in the hole behind the striker. Allowing a player to sit in that hole is a luxury that the top teams can no longer afford, and contributed to the demise of people like Mata, and is arguably also why Foden isn't as high in the pecking order at City as he could be.
I wouldn't trust Maddison in a midfield 3. Yes, he's capable of playing wide and drifting inside but it's not his forte and there are players better suited to that (including for instance Szoboszlai). Arguably he fits the Spurs squad well as they have an abundance of DMs without that much, so he could play ahead of a double pivot, but I don't see where he'd fit in for Liverpool or for that matter Newcastle.
I'll be interested in what happens if Kane stays. Maddison will end up in his space a lot.
