Mount is a good player and the state of the transfer market is such that even if a player has a year left on his contract it doesn't affect their value that much.
Same reason teams are valuing their star players at silly money. Rice isn't worth £100m but to West Ham he is worth a huge amount and if he won Arsenal a league he would be worth it.
The money available in the PL and CL means that if a player could help you in either they are worth a large sum. You could wait a year but is that saving worth the potential downsides of not having them.

Transfer market have him at a value of £18m. Seeing as West Ham seem to be a fan of inflated transfer fees, that will be £30m please with a £1m add on everytime he blasts a cross into a fans face

We shouldn't be buying squad players,we should be buying first team players that are better than what we already have, benching the existing players to make the squad better.

Mount won't be a squad player and you need rotation and competition at the top level. City have 5 or so players who go through spells in the first time over the season as players come in and out of form. Don't underestimate the power of competition to motivate overpaid primadonnas.

That starting trio is winning precisely zero matches away from home against the good teams, we need another good quality holding midfielder.

He's a significant upgrade on Eriksen, who's a fantastic player but is limited in terms of mobility and defensively. Mount is as good as Eriksen going forward and offers far more going backwards. Yes, you need more players who can offer you different systems, including the option for a double pivot, but Bruno-Casemiro-Mount is clearly your first choice midfield.

Just think back in the day. Cole, Ole, Yorke and Teddy. Imagine having that now. Would be totally OP.
Two holding midfielders? Mount works hard defensively. I think he's pretty well balanced.
Agreed. Eriksen is technically good but fairly weak everywhere else.

Eriksen will get a fair bit of game time but yes, Mount would be first choice. Eriksen simply hasn't got the legs or the energy anymore.

There’s no doubt in my mind that what happened to him has affected him psychologically as well.

Personally think Mount is a great signing, I’d love him at Arsenal.
