Summer Transfer Window 23/24

So, when do we get to hear what Arsenal fans predictions are for next season. Got to be some serious silverware at some point after a few years of big spending.

These signings have really cranked up expectations now, they have to compete properly on all fronts. Could go either way.

So missing out on the league, cl and fa cup then :D

Seriously though, for the quoted price picking up timber is some cracking bit of business :(
Man U special ;)

Yeah he does seem to have mistakes in him but so does DDG. He is super confident as well which is vital for a United no1. DDG has made plenty of big mistakes recently as well. He doesn't save as many shots as he should as well because his positioning is poor. Onana would be a big upgrade even if he does make a few mistakes. People underestimate how important and progressive keeper is to the top sides these days. It enables the whole team to play a different style of football.

You could see in the CL final how useful he was in breaking Citys press. DDG has an astonishing ability to pick out the opposition with every pass over 10m. Having someone who can pick a pass from deep is vital.

Hojlund. Yeah he is but its all a bit vague at the moment. Not many other options it seems. Kane is Bayern bound or will be at Spurs until next summer. Osimhen is going to cost £100m+.

There honestly is a bit a drought of elite strikers at the moment
I hear this a lot but I'm not convinced its the most important tactical aspect. You could put Maguire in front of Allison, Ederson and he's still be pants at progressing the ball and pushing the team up the pitch. Our biggest problem isn't the fact that DDG is a bit rubbish with the ball at his feet it the fact that we don't score enough goals and out play in the last third is pedestrian unless we are counter attacking. Mount might help this a bit but Onana will have little impact. I would have bought a striker and another CB before a goalie this season. We scored 58 league goals last season - City got 94. Only Villa and Fulham from the top 10 scored less.

...and there is always a drought of elite strikers hence why we've had to resort to players at the wrong end of their career or second tier loans. We should just pay the money for the Atalanta kid. He's young, robust , two footed and wants to come. Plus he won't be commanding totally silly wages. Arsenal just forked out £60m for Havertz and he doesn't make the top 30 for EPL goals last season. Hojlund will score more with his arse than Havertz.

They’d all just bash it past Maguire, instantly improving the team.

In all seriousness, I’m surprised you think Onana will have ‘little impact.’ The guy’s a beast.
But I agree on the fact we desperately need some striking talent and just general goals from the team we have.

We all know that, I’ve just noticed that pretty much every post is you talking down about the club.

Last season was a positive one less of the doom and gloom.
Yeah but look at the shambles that is the club sale etc. Last season only went well because we panicked and bought at the last minute, that does hopefully appear to be changing now.

Mount is a positive step forward, hopefully there is more to follow. You can't blame me for being negative after the **** show of the last decade. One good season doesn't change it. If we can build on it then yeah, great, I'll be happy, but we must back ETH if we want to win progress more and win trophies.

We need to get rid of lots of the dead wood. That would make me happier, clear out then buy well.

Honestly that isn't an issue that Maguire has. He is OK on the ball. I hear what you are saying though. Alisson and Ederson aren't great keepers because they can pass it around the back so much as they can pick passes up the pitch and between the lines. Passing around the back is useful but its being able to hit a 20m pass over the press to a midfielder or winger that is probably more important.

With so much of football nowadays, its not the direct impact, its the tactical impact. Will teams press your back line with 4-5 players if you keeper can pick a pass over the top of them. With DDG the answer is yes because if you pressure him you will almost certainly get the ball either 10m from goal or 30m from goal and your players are already there to take advantage.

Crap quality video but you can see how often he is breaking the lines and retaining possession for his team.

What team press the back line with 4-5 players. Go full NFL blitz?

If a team is pressing a back line with 4-5 players you just lump the ball into the space they left. Don’t need to be accurate!!

Plenty of teams will commit that many players to a press. The whole team will usually be high up the pitch at that point but thats not uncommon. 2-3 is unlikely to work when you have 4 defenders, a GK and a DM potentially back there. Depends what you are trying to achieve.

Yes, currently a one man press worries DDG but fingers crossed that will change.

Wouldn’t agree with that. Normally a good press is started 1 person closing down the player with one or two cutting out the passing lanes. Yes the whole team might sit high but that’s more to win the second ball if the defending team has to get rid quickly.

Press resistance GKs just give you an extra body to avoid said press and open up more passing lanes.

It can work both ways. Brighton invite the press but that’s not a great idea if the team is well trained at pressing.

saw a video of yer man onana saving a penalty, he'll do for me. don't care if he's prone to a gaff, so is dave. much as i love dave, he's is worse at saving penalties then i am* :p . loved DDG in his prime and he's been a bloody loyal servant (bar the late fax shenanigans) but, among his other flaws for me the worst is that he just isn't confident enough with the ball at his feet. he looks almost terrified as soon as he receives a ball to feet. that don't instil much confidence in teammates.

get onana in and pray he's not a Cameroonian Barthez!!

*i've not gone stat checking so that could well be the only penalty onana has ever saved and could be worse than DDG for all i know
