Summer Transfer Window 23/24

I'm not sure you specifically need midfielders to do that tbf but it's a job somebody is going to have to take on. The likes of Trent, VVD and Robertson are probably the 3 most likely to step up in that regards. What will be harder to replace is their leadership off the pitch. Henderson and particularly Milner were the standard setters every day in training and I'm less sure VVD or Robertson are the characters who will take on that role. I get the impression both prefer to be one of the lads.

Who knows with this summer but you've got to assume that Thiago will stay now and although not a ranter and raver, his leadership is underrated. I can remember his first ever 45 mins for us when he came on at HT (in the 6 as it happens) away to Chelsea and he talked Keita through the entire half. That type of leadership and experience will be invaluable for not just the new signings but players like Jones, Elliott and Bajcetic.
Quite right, leadership can come from anywhere, you're also right about the off field loss from Milner and Hendo. On the Thiago front, I'm actually still expecting him to go, I feel by the end of this window it will be wholesale midfield turnover with Keita, Ox, Milner, Hendo, Thiago and Fabinho all gone and a shiny brand new, younger midfield. My current expectation is Fab and Thiago to also go and two more midfielders to come in but I think one of those two will be a surprise one. Someone we've not been linked with, someone right out of leftfield. I'd like a CB too but I dont feel thats on the list for this transfer window.

I've been saying for years Howe is one of the best coaches/tacticians going when it comes to articulating a philosophy, he's probably the best manager I've seen on MNF (back when Bournemouth got promoted in 2015). I think Newcastle would be wise to give him free rein to execute his plans.
Helped hugely by how humble he is and seems like a thoroughly good bloke compared to some of the dislikeable, ignorant and arrogant fools that preceded him. His interview on the High Performance podcast was brilliant.

Seems funny that the Saudis are bickering over a few million for Henderson when they are shelling out so much in wages.

He’s now got Ashworth to help him out in the background. That’s an extremely key hire. PIF might have trillions but Newcastle can only spend what we earn and a lot of the loop holes have now been tied up. Yes every penny we earn will be going directly into improving every aspect of the club for the next 10years.

I believe we spent around 20million on young players we might not even see. “Player trading”

Thiago to also go
Can't see him leaving, rumours were the Saudi's also enquired about him and he said no thanks. Maybe barca but they don't have the cash. Not sure on a cb, think we might want one but it's low down the list, only chatter about that position was colwill. 2 midfielders for sure given Henderson and Fab are off.

Yea, I wouldn't rule anything out this window but I'd be surprised if Thiago leaves now. Re a CB it's looking like Colwill or nobody and Fofana doing his ACL might make that deal impossible now.

No Baz, if Colwill is going anywhere he’s coming home to Brighton

They’d be stupid to not give him game time, which is what he’s after. Unfortunately I can’t see him leaving, not even in a deal with Caicedo the other way.

Twitter tells me he and his family are all big Liverpool fans, it's his dream to play for us I'm afraid.

Had Fofana not done his ACL then I think Chelsea would have had a difficult decision this summer because I can't see Colwill tying himself into a new contract until he's convinced he's going to be a regular starter. With 2 years left on his deal and him not willing to extend I think Chelsea would have cashed in this summer but Fofana's injury means they probably can't now and it also gives Colwill a clearer path into the side too.

As a Chelsea fan starting to get concerned about the lack of activity. Caicedo has been dragging out for weeks now :( . A midfield of enzo and gallager won't cut it if we want to get back into the champions league next season.
I can't believe how bad your midfield situation has got given all the money you've spent. You need at least 3 more. It's bordering on mismanagement.

Bigpig with his binoculars taking that picture then thinking about posting it on OCUK.

With Hendo gone, I guess the melts on social media will now target jones as the fall guy whenever anything goes wrong :p

I still can’t get my head round the fact that the entire midfield will be gone. Selling Hendo for a paltry 12mill seems like madness, but if he wants to go and frees up the wages then it might make some sense.

Jones, Gomez or Elliot - outside shout of diaz.

12million plus for a 33 year old that's fallen off a cliff ability wise is crazy good business.
