This is going to hopefully be finished before September and I plan to take as many photos as possible as I go (with my iPhone or my neighbour’s DSLR). This project should keep me busy during the summer months at least because when school starts I have no time to make any modifications

The current build state (16.7.17)

Previous build state:

The current build is;

Corsair 900D
I7 4790K @4.4ghz
Asus Maximus Hero
Hyper x 16GB (2x8)
Palit Super Jetstream 980
XFX 850 Pro
1 SSD
2x 4TB 3.5” drives
1x 2TB 3.5” drives
24” BenQ 1080p monitor (Upgrading soon)

Watercooled CPU loop
Ek 400 Reservoir/ D5 combo
360 XSPC 45mm
Corsair SP120s
BeQuiet 2200rpm x2 (Not quiet at all considering the name!)
6 Fan controller with annoying blue LEDs (This is going to a new home)

The current build is a mess. The fluid has changed from Pastel red to a murky colour which has been neglected for far too long. So it needs changing. I will be removing, flushing and salvaging parts for the update. I will also lose the extra 2TB as it really isn’t necessary right now. I am expecting a considerable amount of dust.

Hond 3.0

Edit: not sure why it appears so skewed :/

The name is inspired by my D&D character, with a split personality. His good/evil nature has led to various nicknames and Hond 3.0 is the newest nickname which seems to have stuck with him. Anyways onto the interesting stuff…

The new parts list will involve some ColdZero parts. Here is the new parts list:

KFA GTX 1080 Ti FE

Watercooling
EK Water Blocks 1080Ti Acetal -No backplate! ;)
EK Water Blocks EK-Supremacy EVO - Acetal+Nickel
XSPC clear tubing
Bitspower Fittings
EK Water Blocks EK-CoolStream PE 480
EK Water Blocks EK-RES X3 - TUBE 250
Mayhems Pastel Red

ColdZero Parts
Full Motherboard Tray
Front Fan Cover -Full
Lightbox- White LEDs
GPU block
PSU plate
Case backplate

Other stuff:
Custom extension cables by Pexon
Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut High Performance Thermal Paste
XSPC Heavy Duty Hose Cutter (0-25mm)
Fan splitters
Phanteks PWM Fan Hub
10m Network Cable
Dremel
Drill

This was only based on stock at the time of ordering. I plan to upgrade to rigid tubing in the future so will use that opportunity to get things co-ordinated. I will also be selling the 980 to recoup some funds. I live and work in Cairo so ordering parts is a nightmare as some delivery services refuse to ship here (Looking at you OCuK) but I understand why and the costs/ logistical problems involved. I typically order them from OCuK to the UK and then fly them to Egypt in my luggage. Two bags with Business class :)

The plan is to strip out the case entirely and give it some cleaning. I hope to remove the 5.25” drive bays and install a midplate of sorts. All parts have been ordered except for the ColdZero parts which I am currently discussing with them but I hope they come good.

Stripping the Case

I have begun with taking the hardrives, PSU and cables out of the case.

Rear View of the cable mess..

There is more dust in here than I am happy with. So I'm going to see if I can sort out PCI covers which either have a filter or preferably are blank. (I can't see any blank PCI plates anywhere so if anyone can help me source these then I'll be grateful.

That fan controller is finally out :D

But now I have just realised that I need to order another front bay cover as I cannot find the spares box in my new apartment :(

The PSU is pretty clean though, so that's one part that won't need any extra cleaning.

This is where I am at for the evening. Tomorrow I will be draining the loop and opening up the CPU block. I get the feeling it's going to be gunky and horrible.

Any feedback during any of this build is always welcome, I am always looking to improve or learn something new.

It has been a busy few days.

I really love the look of this backplate!

Things done:
Strip the case down to it's bare essentials
Cut Motherboard tray and grind down the uneven parts
Flush all watercooling parts
Rebuild using CZ parts

Things to do:
Open CPU block
Drill holes for pass through x2
Cable manage (This is going to be a pain)
Affix GPU backplate

I have managed to cut the motherboard tray and yesterday the parts arrived from Portugal. So I began a test fit and it is a rather tight squeeze inside...

This one was probably the most fiddly part but I knew it would fit. (I did doubt it once or twice though)

And this is where it all is now. The 400ml res will be replaced with a smaller 250ml, but I am waiting on my return to the UK next week to collect it.

As always thoughts and suggestions are welcome...

The pictures are terrible quality. I will look at resizing them/ retaking later on where I can.

The reason for the dust is the negative case air pressure. to many outlet fans in comparison to intake.

I now see how the problem has occurred. My two intake fans, one at the front and one at the rear, were the loudest fans. They were often rpm limited to quieten them down, or even switched off. Hopefully with the fan controller, I can use the Corsair fans to intake and provide quieter and more importantly better airflow into the case.

JayzTwoCents did a good video on Youtube on this and this has helped me to at least in my head understand the problem here.
