At the moment I can't help but feel that my gaming needs are severely held back by my CPU and GPU, they just don't cut it! So, I want to upgrade to a 8 core AMD CPU but also a 700 series Nvidia card as a lot of the games I play are published by Ubisoft who have a partnership and so, I might be wrong, a nvidia card could be beneficial. So what would your suggestions be? I don't really have a budget at the moment because I want to get some rough ideas before I could potentially limit myself, thanks.

P.S. would these possible upgrades mean I would have to upgrade my other components as well or not?

You get free delivery so get a fast GFX card first, see how that improves things.

Something like a R9 280X at roughly £220 is great boost from a HD7870

Also what case do you have?

Is your CPU overclocked? If its not, get a aftermarket cooler and crank it up a bit.

My case is a corsair carbide series 200R and I haven't overclocked it just yet due to only using a stock fan and cooler, (any suggestions for a better cooler?).
How much more of a boost would a 280X give me as well? Also, even with a upgraded graphics card, wouldn't the CPU bottleneck it even just a tiny bit?

Well thats why you would overclock the CPU to help remove any bottleneck and improve things.

Here's 7870 vs 280X - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1034?vs=1041

At the average 1080P resolution that most people play at the 280X never struggles, the increase in Vram and memory bandwidth mean it can cope with higher detail settings for longer and not run out of oommphh so quickly.
As for coolers, these should fit,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler £29.99
1 x Akasa AK-CC4013EP01 Nero 3 V2 Premier CPU Cooler £25.99
Total : £65.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Those coolers definitely look reasonable and not too expensive. I was just looking at the FX 8350 as a possible upgrade and it only clocks in at 4gHz and my current CPU is clocked in at 3.5 but can reach that clock using a boost feature. I might see how far I could push my CPU without a better cooler by monitoring the temperatures but I'm definitely gonna consider those coolers.

P.S. When do forum members get free delivery?

Free delivery.

Whoops you not been here quite long enough, sorry about that.

A FX8320 is the same as a 8350 yet just clocked a bit slower, so If you got that and got it cranked up instead.

I have the FX 6300 black edition so would there be any point considering there's already a boost option? And is it 100 posts and a year of membership, and then I get the free delivery?

And I'd strongly recommend going for a single 280x over the 7870 crossfire. You will avoid potential problems (not everything supports crossfire) and you'll also be ready for mantle. Plus the 280x will handle just about everything you throw at it. Sell you're 7870 and put the money towards a new card. If the price is offputting you can pick up a second hand 280x for under 150.

There lies one of main problems: money. I can't really sell the card I've got because it's a bit temperamental at the moment. Somedays it'll work fine, other days, it'll freeze and at the moment my screen keeps on flickering. Guess I'll just have to save up!

Also, is my current board okay/good for overclocking the CPU? I'm gonna get a better cooler but I have some issues with overclocking as 1. my mobo might not be good enough and 2. will overclocking shorten the life of my CPU?
